SnowTrails TV may be covering the area this winter for SnowTrails TV on PBS.
I have a friend that lives in the area may be able to help.

We did the trip about 1996 and in about 4 days. That's with lots of stops and long lunches. It will depend where you start and which way you want to go. We left Orillia the first day and stopped in Whitney on the East side of Algonquin Park. We had a lot of delays such as trails closed and rerouting. We left whitney and rode to Duex River and stayed at Antlers lodge. We had a beautiful log cabin complete with BBQ. Doug and his wife catered to us to no end. They even put a case of beer on ice for us at our request. Great for an evening of relaxing. From Deux river we went around the North Part of the Park through Mattawa, North Bay and down to Sunridge for the evening. We left Sunridge in the morning and headed back to Orillia. It was a great trip and the first year it was brought out. I'm sure a lot of the trails have improved since then being smoother. We did this mid week. I may just do it this season again as we are heading out for 5 days in early Feb.

If you need any more info you could email me.

Check my mileage & motel listings on the SW home page. I did the trip back in '96. We took 4 days to do it. Folks have done it in 3, but I think you'd be missing the scenery/riding longer than necessary each day.

The map may be a little inaccurate in the South River to North Bay area. Major reroute thru there a couple of years ago. Get the Near North Trail Assoc. map. It shows the actual route.

Check the links in my signature for motel & mileage info.

I've done it the past three years. Took 3 days with the wife, and it wasn't too bad, didn't miss any scenery, then last year planned with some guys from work, decided on 4 days, and unfortunately, we used them (a couple of guys broke their sleds and used the extra day for repairs - used the first day!!!)

I usually start in Pembroke (close to where I live).

Day 1: Pembroke to Haliburton with stop in either Barry's Bay or Madawaska or Whitney for lunch.
Day 2: Haliburton to Restoule with stop in Kearney, or Dorset, or Trout Creek for lunch.
Day 3: Restoule to Mattawa with stop in North Bay, or Bonfield, or even in Mattawa.
Day 4: Mattawa to Pembroke with stop in Rolphton for lunch.

I doo it in this order because the Top A from Mattawa to Pembroke is real nice and smooth, with a few hills on the pipeline, a real back saver for the last portion of the ride.

I can provide you with a list of places to stay if you wish, e-mail: originalscrimmer@hotmail.com.

Remember to bring your camera and enjoy the time on the snow!!

Thanks everyone for all the help, I may be in touch with some of you for more of your input. We know when we are going now and the route we will be taking. Any input as for places to stay, good eats and more importantly where to get a beverage after the ride would be greatly appreciated

If you know where you are staying ahead of time some of the lodges/motels will pickup supplies for you. All the operators were great with us

We did it in 3 days from Srucedale. Stayed in Whitney the 1st night, then Northbay. I thought we did good time even at -45 c. :dazed: I think 4 days is good so you can take your time or just in case you have problems
