Okay, I'm probably the youngest semi-entry level driver riding an F1000 Sno Pro. Don't even ask how young I am, it's awesome.

Anyways, I'm very confused, and here's why:

Most snowmobiles (I'm not sure of the older Arctic Cat models) have thier Guages measuring speed using KPH (that's a positive guess looking at local's machines), but my F1000 uses MPH on the guage and I'm out on the lake hitting speeds like 80-100MPH, so says the guage, (that's alot in KPH) hitting 3/4 of the throttle and I have people coming up to me "Hey, I could get my machines to 120KPH, what's yours got?" And I'm thinking that should be nothing if I'm going 100MPH (150KPH on a quick guess) and it seems a bit absurd.

Maybe that's just how fast these F1 Sno Pros are...

So the question is:
is this speed guage really telling me I'm ripping the snow at 100MPH or is just to boost my confidence (bull####ting me)?

Lol, stupid question, like I said.

Thanks.

I'm not going to touch the metric deal but...

The speedo's on sleds are VERY opptomistic (sp). I'm not sure about the new ones but when you factor in track spin and everything else, they typically read MUCH higher than you are actually going.

The only true way to get your actual speed is with a GPS or radar...until you have that info I wouldn't do much talking, you will be disappointed (alright, your riding a 1 liter sled, maybe not too disappointed). :)

That's very true, but then again, the other people's sleds are over reading too, so it is a fair comparison going by the speedo, it's just not completely acurate in terms of actual speed.

FYI Cat and Polaris always give their speeds in MPH, Yamaha in KPH, and for years and years Ski-Doo was an easy switch from one to the other. Not sure if it's still the same or not.

It would be real nice to be able to toggle back and forth from one to the other, especially here in Canada where all the distance markers are in Kms, as are the speedos on our trucks, quads, bikes and everything we own.

I think you need to read your manual,,, I believe there is a wire you can hook up for kph and then unhook for mph,,,, believe it comes from the factory unhooked for mph,,, Mine reads mph which is what I want, so I havent looked into it on mine. I believe on my firecat, I could press and hold one of the buttons and it would switch from mph to kph,,,

your manual holds all.

the speedo on my firecat is also the most accurate one I have ever had. At 60mph it was reading 62. (the 60 mph reading came off a gps),,,

All i had to do with my firecat was unplug (or plugin? not sure) a brown wire that was left connected (or unconnected) to my speedo. It's attached to the wires that are currently hooked up to your speedo. To be safer, read your owner's manual and it will tell you how to switch to Km/h.

The older Cat speedo will be in Miles Per Hour, not KPH. Your new speedo will likely be in MPH, unless the dealer changed it, which is highly unlikely. 100 MPH is right around 160 KPH and you F1000 should have no trouble reaching that speed. The newer electronic speedos are more accurate than the old mechanical gauges, but they probably all err on the high side. Don't be too impressed with top speed, just make sure you can stop and slow down enough to avoid running into things. A blink of an eye and you're dead at that speed. It sure is a rush though.

did you end up getting it switched over???

My M1000 162 ran 74.9 MPH last week on a straight, flat and groomed trail at 10K feet in elavation. This is per my GPS. The speedo said about 80-85MPH.

I *believe* there is a button on the speedo you can push to get it to measure KPH, but I'm not sure.

Hey Shepherdblake,

I had an 06 F7 last year and got a F1000 SnoPro this year. To switch from MPH to KPH you either hold one of the two buttons or both buttons at the same time for a few second and it'll change. I didn't get a chance to try the F1000 yet (10C in Toronto and no snow anywhere :whatever: ) but my F7 speedo was bang on all the way to 100MPH. I checked with my GPS. My 00 ZRT 600 was also bang on. I'm not sure on the F's but I'd check it out with a GPS before making claims, plus it would pi*s me off if my speedo was off. I like to see my exact speed +/- a few miles/hour.

Okay, that clears it up...

I found out it's not bsing me either... My Uncle had purchased a Yamaha Rage and his read in KPH, and while he said we were ripping 120, I told him we were only going 70 or something, then I realized mine did read MPH. I want to keep it MPH anyways. Makes me feel proud...lol

And someone mentioned something about going fast and then making sure you can slow down fast enough: those F1's brake are freakin' touchy, sometimes that's a good. Plus, I'm improving my riding skills and I've always been a safer driver on sleds.

Besides, we were ripping it on clear and clean lakes :D It's as smooth as a baby's bottom 'round here.

Thanks...
