It's just a habbit for me to turn the tachs on my sleds. It's easier to watch top RPM. I dunno, I'm wierd...hehe

Beerman
10-15-2002, 08:01 PM
Georgeous sled, but that 100 mph speedo isn't gonna do you much good after the first 7 seconds. :D

Beerman
10-15-2002, 08:04 PM
You're not weird, that's something drag racers have been doing since, well, forever. But then again we have to shift every now and then . . .

phazerhater
10-15-2002, 08:05 PM
I hear ya, I'm seriously thinking about getting one of those black tragic 130mph speedos. I also saw a sticker that you can add to the speedo that goes up to 120mph, but it looks kinda "chinky".

I bought the "cheesy" decals for my speedo. I spend all the money on he sle and then wimped out when it came to a speedo. :nervous: I have a new digital cam I will see if I can get some pics of my sled up in the next couple weeks. Kevin

Looks great PH. I hope you got a good deal on it. I saw a 03 900 out the door price $7500 at Trackside in Eagle River Wisconsin a month ago. At that price even I thoght about jumping ship. ;)

phazerhater
10-15-2002, 10:14 PM
Got her out the door for $7200 and cost + 25% on all accessories, including the new cover, under cover, oil, spare belt, and plugs. Even threw in a free ZR hat. :D I thought that was a pretty good deal... ;)

10-15-2002, 10:21 PM

phazerhater
10-15-2002, 10:49 PM
Does the housing you've seen look better or worse? Just curious.lol I just wish I could have the two garages on either side of me!!haha

Looks good PH. boy oh boy... you have to be wishing for the snow to fly now... Yeah i still dont understand the 100MPH tach.. i guess cat spent too much $$$ engineering that sled and not enough $$$ putting in a new tach.. anyways after 100 who cares how fast you go... it will still scare the Sh*t outta me

TallCool1
10-15-2002, 11:01 PM
Nice sled PH...that's one of the best looking green ones I've seen. Have seen other people turn the tach too...helps ya to keep an eye on things. BTW, where the 900 decals meet the very front part of the hood, right above the bumper, are they more orange or red? I'm still trying to come up w/a scheme for my hood when I paint it.

Good job, pray for snow, and let riders of other sleds in your area pray for mercy!! :hallo9:

Where the 900 comes down to the bumper it's more red in color and fades into an orange as it goes back.
Thanks for all the compliments guys!! :inlove:

Nice Sled. You'll love it I'm sure. Why didn't you get the orange flap too? Just curious. I'm sure this one will break before you know, like they all do and then you can put on an orange one. I still have some more orange to add to mine. Love that windshield. :hallo10:

phazerhater
10-16-2002, 08:04 AM
I totaly spaced on a pic of the motor!! I'll get some shortly. ;)
I didn't go with the orange snow flap because I didn't want too much of one color. I may end up putting one on farther down the road, or when this flap snaps...

Very nice looking sled, what size track is that? The paddles look small. 1"??

phazerhater
10-16-2002, 08:35 AM
Yes its a 1" lug. I thought about going with a 1.25", but I don't do much off trail riding and don't want to sacrafice any speed.hehe

Nice ride! I was tempted to trade my 02 800 on a 9 but with only 2300 miles on it, she do for another season. Congrats and enjoy!!!

Good choice! If I had to do it over again. I'd go with a 1" lug. That 1.25 is nice but not that big of a benefit that I have seen so far. It was nice when I was in the 3 ft. of powder once. But that was only one time.

10-16-2002, 05:28 PM
Did you ever run a guy with the same sled as you and a 1" lug? Curious as to just how much top speed the bigger lugs scrub off...

LicknOutaTheCatsDish
10-16-2002, 06:21 PM
how's the insurance on the that "big kitty"?

phazerhater
10-16-2002, 07:17 PM
Insurance is $160 more per year, or about $13 more a month than my ZRT 600. Total per year is a little over $300 for full coverage.
It was kinda funny, the insurance lady I spoke with kept trying to TELL me that I had a Thundercat and NOT a ZR like I didn't know what I was getting!! I politely told her, no sweety, it IS a 2003 ZR and it is new this year....LOL ;)

I ran my bro-in-law on his 01 800. As far as top end is concerned. We both ran dead even. Both stock. And he weighs about 50 pounds less than I do. Not really sure why. I wanted to have him jump on my sled and do the same. He runs a few more studs but they are worn, and he runs plastic backers, I run aluminum. So all in all, besides difference in wt. from him to me, its the same sled. Just that mine is newer.

10-17-2002, 07:11 AM
I'm not so sure it makes the difference that many claim. Mine has a 1.25, it will run with or beat others with the 1" track. The deeper lug track definately gives you much better holeshot and braking on everything except ice/super hard pack conditions.
The biggest disadvantage I can see is that sliders wear much faster than with a shorter lug but with them costing so little who cares.

PH, $300 sounds like a pretty good price for that fast of a sled. Who do you use?

phazerhater

Sounds good doopilot. Would be great to run into someone from SW on the trails.:)
atyszka, I go through State Farm Insurance and have both vehicles insured through them as well. They have the cheapest insurance by far, for me anyway. ;)

I would let that area go Trev....you got enough decals up front with the 900's coming all the way up. I think it looks great the way it is.

phazerhater
10-28-2002, 06:36 PM
True, but it just looks empty there for some reason.haha

10-28-2002, 06:37 PM
You could always poke a supercharger through the hood there!!!

I was thinking turbo, but hey a supercharger would work too! LOL :p

Now you need a deeper lug track and some studs, then nothing will stop you but your own grip on life.

PH, looks sweet. I'm extremely jealous. I always liked the looks of the green '98's but, IMO, that's going to be one of the best looking sleds on the snow (F-Cats included).

hey phazerhater, Iam breathless, shes beautiful. Does your track look like little volcanos? If it does they used that on the 2001 zr800s , that thing hooks like crazy even with no picks, except for ice. anyway Nice sled, congrats.

Ya, it's the little volcano 1" lug. I was a little worried about how it would hook up because there aren't many lugs straight up the middle. Hope it hooks as well as yours! ;)
I just picked up a green/black tank pad for it and I'm thinking of replacing that crappy plastic snow flap. Not sure what all else I'll do as far as looks...

10-31-2002, 04:35 PM
ya, the tach is always turned that way on race sleds, its designed so that max rpm is at 12 o clock. just easier to read.

phazerhater
10-31-2002, 04:42 PM
:withstupid: Yup, much easier to keep an eye on that way for both top RPM as well as engagement. I need to get it calibrated though to make sure it is correct before I start messing with clutching though, because I don't trust the factory settings for tach or speedo at all.

1BADZR
10-31-2002, 09:40 PM
Phazerhater, trust me you will be shockeon how well thattack does for not beng picked, that thing grabs like mo---r f----r. youll see.
