How do you guys change the chain case oil without making the belly pan a mess? Doesn't seem like enough room for a pan under it, and I'm not found on wiping it with rags.

good question, No answer :dazed:
I just let it drain through the hole out the bottom into a pan for about an hour that way all has drained out

I buy a spare clutch bolt cover for an S-chassis in whatever colour I need. I then cut a matching hole in my belly pan right below the chaincase. They are available in yellow, red, black, green and purple depending on which S-model you select.

Jacqui's S chassis 99 Formula Deluxe 583 had a drain plug in the bottom of the chaincase with a hole in the belly pan under it.
All previous years skidoos and 2 Yamahas we've owned never had that.
My ZX chassis 02 Legend 700 has it now as well.

I often thought that I would drill a hole in the bottom of the chaincase and thread it and install a 1/4" set screw as a plug.
Although everytime I did have the cover off, I was too rushed to actually do it.

It's always an option for those tiring of cleaning up a mess that doesn't clean up easily.

Thanks for all the great ideas.

I like the idea from Thumbdoctor with the "S" chasis plug cover, althoug is it seems ridiculas that it is a $10 part. I suspect a rubber plug, similar to what would be found on a firewall in you car would work the same as well.

I too have just jacked up the clutch side of the sled and practiced with a bit of water until it runs directly to and out of the exhaust hole in the bellypan. then just put a container under to catch the old oil. that leaves you with about a 6" line of oil on the bellypan to wipe up afterwards.
This time I tried making a funnel type contraption but it didn't work out too good. I'll stick to my old ways I guess...

My s chassis summits never had drain plugs, had to pull the cover (forces you to inspect the internals). I'd slip a plastic bag (the fruit section) under the case to catch the oil. The rolled cases sat right on the pan so wouldn't work, just it it drain out a hole in the belly pan.
