Does anyone know where to find a link for instructions for installing a reverse kit on a Yamaha Viper? I have a service manual for an older 700 sx and I can use the exploded view on the online parts to kind of see how things go together but instructions would be better. Any help would be great.

Thanks for the info! I looked on totallyamaha a few days ago and didn't see anything. I don't know how I missed it.

Well I installed the reverse kit last night. It took about 3 hrs to do the mechanical stuff and about 1/2 an hour to cut and file/sand the hood. Went out to the garage this morning to install the backup buzzer. What a pain in the a$$. I finally found the wires for the microswitch for the reverse lever after about 10 minutes, then the fun began. The manual shows the beeper mounted beside the voltage rectifier. The rectifier is mounted by the right footwell. So I search, and search, and search,....and search,.....and then I search some more. I can't find a plug any where on the right side of the machine. I'm pulling my hair out! So I look in the manual for the 10th time and there it is beside the rectifier! So, I call two dealerships where I know the owners fairly well. They haven't installed a reverse kit on a Viper in a while, but they insist the harness has a plug on the right side. Well I look a while longer and decide to call the nearest dealer to see if they have a used one I can look at. Luckily they had one in for service. So I drive 30 km to the dealer and I talk to the mechanic about the buzzer and he says "ya it's on the right side behind the footwell". He has just taken the sled outside and put it in the customers trailer. So I go outside and lift the hood. I see no buzzer. I go back in and tell the mechanic what I didn't see. I said to him, is there any chance it is on the left side? He says " I don't think so" . So we both go out back and as soon as the cover of the trailer was lifted he says "there it is on the left side"! What a run around. So I go home and spend 5 minutes installing the buzzer on the left side. After spending an hour looking for the plug earlier in the day.

I guess I should explain some of this confusion. I printed the instructions off a link on totallyamaha.com and it showed the buzzer beside the rectifier. The manual I have is from my 97 SX700 and it showed the same. Almost every thing about the two sleds has been the same up to this point, but maybe a Viper manual would show the buzzer being on the left side. Live and learn I guess. If I had to do the job again it wout probably take a couple hours.

Hey Homer2002,
I'm looking at getting the reverse put in as well.
Where did you get your reverse, how much did you pay, and how easy was it to actually do. Is it better left to a deal to do?

Ebay. $370 U.S. I payed $55 taxes at the border. I had it shipped to port Huron Michigan since I live 20 min away. Real easy to do if you have any mechaical aptitude. You need a torque wrench and a few wrenches 10,12,13,14 mm, large phillips screwdriver. If you have it shipped to Canada you will pay brokerage fees of $25-$75. Still way cheaper than Canada. It is $800 plus tax in Canada. Hey akrievins, where do you live? If you are ever in Sarnia, Ont or know someone who will be, I could pick it up for you in Port Huron if you wanted to ship it there. I'm sure we could figure something out. I usually make a couple trips up north along Hwys 401,400,11, so that covers a lot of Ontario.

Hey akrievins, after I posted this I see that you are from Mississauga. It is about a 2 1/2 drive from my house. If you decided to get a kit from Ebay and were concerned about the install, you could have it shipped to Port Huron and I could pick it up. You could then load your sled up in a truck or trailer and drive to my place and we could do it in 2-3 hrs. The money you save in brokerage charges and extra shipping to Canada would easily pay for your gas. I'm a shift worker so I only work 3 days a week. I don't mind helping a fellow sledder out. Besides that nice Viper deserves reverse. I wish I had installed reverse on mine a couple years ago.

Thanks Homer2002

Call me lazy, but I personally will NEVER own another sled without reverse again! It's just so nice not to have to pull, and lift, and push.

I'm glad homer finally decided to add reverse also. Since I'm always there helping him pull his around. ;)
