whats up people, im looking to buy a back up sled, nothing special, just something i can ride, just in case. im looking at xlt's, xcr's and ultra's. i just bought a brand new left over 2002 800 xc sp. ive had a 97 xlt special and a 97 ultra spx and a 99 xc 500 in the past, the 500, which bored the hell out of me after my ultra. last year i bought a used 2002 700 xc sp and this year i found a good deal on the 800, that i couldn't pass up. i was looking into either a 96-97 xlt, a 97-98 xcr, or a 96-98 ultra. i would just like some feedback and what you guys think would be my best bet for a fast reliable sled. both my xlt and my ultra were very reliable, but i did do check ups on them every 3-4 rides. i want a sled in the 1000-1500 price. any feedback would be greatly appreciated, thanks. p.s. i have had many sleds before that, ie: indy trails, indy 440 liquid cooled, 99 xc 500. i would like a back up sled with some balls and those first three models are what comes to mind when in need for a good, fast, and reliable sled.

Probably too far of a distance but I've got 2 2002 edge x 800's available.
If performance is important I'd look into the 2003 800 updated cdi box and jets/needles for your 02. My 03 seems to run much stronger than either of my 02's w/ the cdi and carbs specs. being the difference in set-up.

1997 or 98 XCR 700. thay have some good bag and once you get the flat spots out of them they will run with the rest of their class. We had one here that was sick fast. finally sold it to upfrade due to the suspension. The X-tra 10 didn't do much for me or my back.

a good yet cheaper reliable sled would be an old triple with at least an x-10. of the 96 xlt sp, ultra sp, and xcr i had, i'd say the xcr was the most reliable and fun to ride. the ultra wasn't the best bone stock, but the way i set mine up it was a monster, but too much for the average guy to tune and keep up with.
an early domestic twin is another good choice. or you can always go with an indy 500. they aren't the fastest things, especially compared to your current sled, but by golly those things are bulletproof! hope this helps. -Polaris Doc
