hey,
I have a 97' powder special 580, when i bought the sled last year i noticed it didn't have a sway bar on it. But it still has the hole through the chassis and the stems coming out. Im not sure if i should leave it how it is or should i put one on? I do alot of kinds of riding, trail, lake and ditch banging, also what it the main purpose of this bar? Would anyone know if a 93-97 zr/ext 440/580 sway bar would fit.
Thanks

Probably just about any sway bar should fit. I think they are all the same length, but you will need to measure to be sure. The sway bar helps keep the sled flatter in cornering and more stable at high speeds. The sway bar ties both side of the front end together, just like on a car, so both springs can share the load. This allows for the use of a softer spring for better bump absorbsion, but combined capacity for bigger hits. Mountain sleds, like yours, tend to not have sway bars because what makes for flatter cornering makes it more difficult to roll the sled side to side for sidehilling and boondocking in deep snow. Your sled may also have shorter a-arms for a narrower ski stance, which also aids in rolling the sled in deep snow.
