Are the spark plug wires just normal 7mm wire that you can buy in bulk? Also the caps for the wires, I have a 1998 mxz 583 and a 1987 yamaha excel lll, does any resister cap work, I currently have the LBE5ez caps.

not positive but i think they are solid core wires (also available in bulk) regular automotive wire has a resistor core. i believe the newer sleds with sofisticated electronics use resistor, not sure about a 98 sled though. intresting and prudent topic let us know what your research turns up.
