I am trying find part #'s for the starter and clutch/ring gear. I want to put electric start on my 1994 Indy XLT 600 ,but do want to spend $ 500.00 for a kit ! Does anybody know any options I could take or sites to checkout ? Can a ring gear be installed onto my old clutch ? I am a machinist, so this would not be hard for me to do. Wiring would not be hard to do ,but would I need to install a voltage regulator to control battery charging ?

Just a few things to ponder, and the following is just a educated guess on $. A new starter from Polaris will probably be around $200.00, a rebuilt one 125-150, what ,no core? Add $50. Ring gear, another $50, you need a regulator/rectifier, got to convert AC to DC you know, add another $50. Now, new wiring/wiring harness, make you own or buy, I have no idea on $ for that, battery and mount, another $50, and maybe a new key switch, $20-$40. Pretty soon, you're talking some serious coin. The kit starts to look a little better, of course if you can source some of this on the used market, you could save some $. I did this about 20 years ago, went with the kit, pretty easy, but replacing the wire harness was a minor pain, and you will have to remove the primary clutch to put the ring gear on. Good luck.

Also take into account that if you're installing electric start and you don't have a battery, there's something else you need to purchase and wire up as well as an extra item to maintain... added weight, etc. I was going to buy the starter kit for my Fusion, but it was $700. Yeah right! It's now a lot cheaper, but with the vibration problems I've heard about and the recalls on the proper tension so it won't fall off... I think I'll just pull it over by hand. If ya can't pull the sled over, you probably shouldn't be riding it anyway. Unless the temperature is bellow -20*C and everything is frozen... lol. I'm just thinking out loud again.

I know the battery has been mentioned before, but if you get a short season (for example, just proving the point further) make sure to maintain the thing or else it will permanently lose it's peak charge.

:rolleyes: i have a 93 indy 580 xlt sp. and i thought about it,but with all the mods had to make as well as the extra weight factor(the thing already weighs a ton).yours is a 94 so you would have the purple top on yours as well.it makes it alot heavier.as someone else said pulling it is alot cheaper and easier.and what a way to get the blood flowing by pulling it over a dozen times to get her fired :rolleyes:

I already have a new oem ignition switch(elec. start),starter solenoid,voltage regulator and rectifier. I would build the battery box and add additional wiring for this project. Thru research I believe a polaris #3083189 starter would fit the 600 tripple. My problem is finding out whether a ring gear can be installed onto my clutch ? Would a polaris # 1321672 clutch match up to 600 tripple ? Are crank tapers the same on the clutches and also what about the offset for the belt ? So far I have $ 30.00 into this project, so a couple more hundred would not be that bad of an investment. Guys thanks for the reply's, I really appreciate your help ! Any more suggestions would be helpful !!!

I'll never understand why anyone would want electric start on a 2-stroke sled. To me it would be like putting e-start on a chainsaw.
But, to each their own, I know some people that wouldn't own a sled without it.

:rolleyes: i am removing the e-start on my 95 xlt 600.it is very good condition.it was a aftermarket kit.was all polaris stuff.
