While on our ride this last weekend we saw two ski-doo's with chain problems.. Both were at our motel.. A mechanic fixed the first one but was cussing pretty bad. Next morning I heard the guy say "we've got another chain problem"... I think this one was even worse with chewed up sprockets after the chain jumped... I just cleaned up our sleds after the ride (150mi. on each sled) and checked the chain tension. My F3 700's was perfect, I was unable to turn it in anymore to line up the hairpin so it went back exactly where I had checked it.. The 550Fan my wife rides was a different story.. I should have counted, but I think I turned her tensioner bolt in 3 or 4 complete turns!, maybe it was only two and a half but it sure took up a lot of slack. It was defintely loose...Is this something that is a problem all the time?... Are some worse than others?... I think I'll be checking chain tension after each outing from now on. How often do you guys check it?..

Her sled I believe is newer right so the chain is going to have some stretch and wear to it which is why it had to be retentioned. I just put a new chain on mine at the start of the season and have already had to retighten it once. After a few hunderd miles you will notice the tension will stay pretty consistent, of corse you should still check it. :thumbsup:

TIC.... you tearing things up already :p J/K LOL. Jason's right it will stretch when new, just check it everyother outting . I go through ours everytime we get in from a ride. A snapped chain will make a mess of things , most of the time it's from improper tension.

:blush: reminds me need to check ours, hyfax replaced ,skid greased , almost ready agian :tongue:
