: Do You Take Em With Ya?
ZR Sled Head 10-19-2002, 08:34 AM Be it your wife/girl friend/significant other or your kids, do they participate in the sport as well?
In years gone by my wife did ride but due to health problems over the last couple of years she's more content to stay at home. I think she enjoys the peace and quiet, especially when my son goes with me.
My son up to last year (he's turned seven in June) rode with me on a limited basis as we never seemed to be able to keep him warm enough. That all changed last season when he rode 12-1400 of my 2300 total miles. I didn't think it possible but he may be a bigger "sled head" than his dad. Even though it means toning down my riding style when he's aboard I wouldn't have it any other way.
:) :) :)
Rick.
ARCTICZRT600 10-19-2002, 08:38 AM My wife won't go. She had a boyfriend get killed on one.
ZREFI 10-19-2002, 08:46 AM Wife rides with me all the time.
LicknOutaTheCatsDish 10-19-2002, 08:56 AM wife just bought her own sled a few weeks back, so I guess she has the bug also :D
Bauer 10-19-2002, 10:06 AM i take my girlfriend with me if she wants to come the odd time. But she don't come much. Just say when we do the 100 mile round trip to a lodge for wings a couple times a winter.
bluebyyou 10-19-2002, 10:24 AM Wife has her own sled and rides with us most of the time. She like to enjoy the scenery on her rides so I wait for her to catch up at the crossroads, unless the trails are busy then I stick right with her just incase. She doesn't mind at all. :)
Team_Arctic 10-19-2002, 10:26 AM i took one of my gf's with me once she dident like it much said she go to cold.. then i have had others that love it and have their own sled
hillslider 10-19-2002, 10:36 AM for us it's a famliy sport (if you call it a sport but thats another tread) wife son 13, douther 11, go out every weekend we can.
TallCool1 10-19-2002, 10:36 AM My wife's from Arizona, so I thought she might not care for it, but she really enjoys it. She's had to miss the last couple years because of the kids being so small (someone has to stay behind to take care of them :D ), but she's getting back to it this year.
mr670 10-19-2002, 11:13 AM My wife is not into the sledding thing, so I take the girl friend.
jwheeler 10-19-2002, 11:15 AM She loves sledding and will go most of time, and there is the times when just the guys go out for a rip and leave the girls home.
LadyK 10-19-2002, 11:16 AM mr670 I really hope your wife doesnt find out. !!!
Doo you really think I'd let Permafrost leave without me :hallo6:
phazerhater 10-19-2002, 02:06 PM I have been trying to get the wife to come with for years and even offered the ultimate sacrifice.....a luxury two seater!! :nervous: And can you believe she STILL said no!! So now I just ride with the misstress.LOL
phazerhater 10-19-2002, 02:08 PM LOL I see I'm not the only one that takes the "other", mr670.hehe Only kidding of course. :p
PANTERAONE 10-19-2002, 02:45 PM my g-f just bought a 2003 renegade 600,its her 1st sled and shes so excited about getting into sledding, shes done it before but has never owned one
WickedWiesel 10-19-2002, 03:42 PM I got my wife and kids hooked. My wife didn't like it at first but she's in love with it now,the kids want they're own ZR120's.
Mikadoo 10-19-2002, 04:39 PM NOT A CHANCE!!!!! :cussing:
todatop 10-19-2002, 05:06 PM you bet we make it a family affair
PowderBoy 10-19-2002, 05:24 PM My ex girfriend went last year and wasnt holdin on...she fractured 3 vertebrae in her back and never fell off the machine... This year i am debating wether or not to bring the new one... She seems very interested. I would prefer to let her drive by herself but with no experience that could make for a frustrating weekend. Weekends pounding 200+ on the trail and pounding more in the cabin are what i like most.hehehe
zrgreen 10-20-2002, 05:11 AM My wife has never gone, but this year she did agree to give it a try....at least just once. If she likes it, is that good or bad for me ???
petestoy 10-20-2002, 06:58 AM I bought the wife a 02 ZL600SS ESR tjis year its her first sled she used to ride on the back. also looking at seat jacks so the kids can actually come comfortably. The key I think is Keeping everybody warm and together. When the wifes with me its a very casual ride. The group we ride with spend the day with the wife and kids but when the kids are in bed the dads get to go and play and the wives huttle around the fire with a bottle of wine and a chick flick. Everybodys happy! :D
Racewife1 10-20-2002, 10:24 AM Sure, I take him with me! :inlove: Actually, I'm one of the few wives I know that enjoys snowmobiling. I'll admit I've been a pain in the behind on a couple of trips but I'm still learning. Back in March, we rode 500 miles in two days on our last trip to the UP! Not too shabby.
LadyK 10-20-2002, 10:32 AM Racewife 1 welcome to the forum. It is nice to have another Lady on board who likes to ride. Dont be discouraged, learning takes a while and before you know it you will be right up with the pack. It has taken me 5 years to be able to keep up with the pack, but I have finally made it and you know what, the learning still goes on. Nice to have you aboard Racewife.
:D
toydoc 10-20-2002, 10:45 AM Thats a very good 2 day trip. Keep up the good work Racewife1. :)
We started snowmobiling together when she was my gf. After the rock came her sled. Both kids started riding with us by age 2, no problems just short trips and they get lots of sleep on the ride. :D
I surprised my wife a new sled for Xmas a few years back. I first asked her what she wanted, she said "just ear rings" so I found a small ear ring box and wrap the key in it. Then Xmas morning (at 4 am  ) I drag her new sled from the garage to near the door wall. She open the box "whats this" I said look outside. She was very happy :inlove: she made a setup to put the key on a ear ring and wore it all that day and showed everyone her new ear ring. It was cool and something we will always remember.
paul yarek 10-20-2002, 10:50 AM my wife insists that i stoke up the woodstove when she knows my son and i are going sledding, she dislikes the cold so much that it makes her freeze just knowing we are going out there.
jstimac 10-20-2002, 11:00 AM My wife and I started at the same time. In fact she insisted that we get two sleds at first because she didn't want to be left behind. We raced motorcycles on the some circuit so there would be no two up riding for this girl. Now that we're older she goes with me about 1/4 of the time. It's fun when we go together but she dose'nt mind when I go with the guys. I kinda like her :inlove:
Iron Dog 10-20-2002, 12:00 PM My wife hates it! If fact last year she said if I didn't get rid of my sled, she was leaving. God I miss her!!! LOL
No actually, she used to enjoy it. But she had back surgery 4 years ago (not caused from riding) which ended her riding days. But she still supports me and the son. I encourage everyone to get their kids involved. It's a great way to spend quality time with them!!
sleddinfool 10-20-2002, 08:59 PM MY wife enjoys ridingbut hasn't gonein a few years due to the kid thing, this year she told me to get her sled out of storage and she's going. She also told me she wasn't riding that "ugly green thing" meaning my 99 zrt. I think being the spped freak that she is wil take one ride and want it!. Kevin
highlandergerman 10-20-2002, 09:38 PM yep, wife has her own sled and often comes with, no kids yet.
PAZR700 10-21-2002, 05:34 AM My wife rides with me in the fields of Pennsylvania because she not into the speed thing. She won't touch the mountains that we ride down here because the trails are so narrow and she's afraid to hook a tree or rock (terrain is steep and twisting) She's never been on a groomed trail, but have a couple of trips to Tug Hill and Old Forge NY planned this year, she should love that. My 16 yr old daughter is not even interested, but my 15 yr old son knows where the throttle is and scares the bejesus out of me, but he can ride and has never hit anything
5youngs 10-21-2002, 11:43 AM We just got into it last year as a family and rode twice, but really enjoyed it. We have 3 boys (age 14,16 and 17) and we ride together. The oldest is going to college so we will work around his schedule this winter when he wants to go. My wife enjoys this much more than 4-wheelers and I enjoy her coming along.
dpaige 10-21-2002, 12:06 PM I bought my girlfriend her own machine this year.
She seemed to really enjoy riding last year so I got her a 94 VMAX 600.
She really liked the way the Yamahas look.
Racewife1 10-21-2002, 08:49 PM Thanks LadyK and toydoc! I appreciate the encouragement. I think I've come a long way over the past couple of years. I'm lucky my old man is patient with me. Riding with the guys is challenging but I think it's forced me to become a better rider sooner. I can't wait to get a few more seasons of experience in. Some of the wives think I'm strange for tagging along with the guys. Oh well, I can hang around and chit-chat with the gals an ol' day. I'd much rather be out on the trails while I can.
