O.K. So my day starts with my phone ringing at 8:45. I sit up and ask my wife if it's Sunday or Monday. Run to phone; it's our receptionist: "Are you O.K.?" Musta turned off my alarm in my sleep this morning.
So I'm at work for an hour, and suddenly realize my checkbook is missing. And there's a pair of safety glasses in it's place. Maybe I'm losing my mind..after all, I have been running around like crazy this morning. So I start asking questions to people, and suddenly realize there is anti-sieze all over the nosepiece of these safety glasses (good thing I was only carrying them and hadn't put them on yet). So someone is messing with me, obviously. At least I'm not losing my mind. But no one wants to fess up yet.
Then my wife calls. A cop or sheriff was just at my house and wanted to issue a citation because my dog was half mile away at this dude's place where dude raises these hybrid deer. I guess he was harassing a fawn, chasing it back and forth along the fence, and the dumb deer ran smack into the fence and broke it's neck or something. It's alive but not doing well. Cop says he won't issue a citation if we agree to handle it honestly with the deer owner (he wants $1500 if the deer dies). I live outside city limits, so there's no leash law. I don't think I'm liable for a darn thing.

Dear Jake:
I'm not going to chain you up for the rest of your life. But if you don't leave the precious hybrid deer alone Mr. Deer Farmer is going to blast you with his .223. You're a really cool dog, but not $1500 cool, so the choice is yours.

In Ontario it's a no no if your dog is chasing deer. I don't know what the fine is though.

In Maine, if your dog is chasing a deer the wardens or cops can shoot the dog. stupid law.

Are you sure you weren't hanging out w/Formulaman earlier today??? I couldn't help but laugh outloud (with you, not at you :D ), just imagined this guy thinking he's in the twilight zone.

A dog chasing wild deer is one thing... but this deer was a captive deer. In my book that makes it livestock or at worst just like a dog chasing someone else's cat up a tree.

So Mr. Mutant Deer Farmer had to shoot the Mutant Deer last night. He wants me to pay for a new Mutant Deer so I told him where he can shove his dead Mutant Deer and now he's going to sue me. So this morning the town cop came by and woke my wife up at 8:15 to write a $200 fine for Dog At Large.
Crapity crap.

It's not your fault the deer wasn't looking where it was going.

So if it were a fox or coyote running w/the deer, then who would he sue..
the DNR?!? That is ludicrous! Does he have pictures of your dog chasing the deer????????

Watch out Jake.

I'd pay the fine, the farmer will never go through with the lawsuit.

in ontario if your dog is chasing deer you will get charged only if you are pursuing the deer in a hunt. i'd call a lawyer and get some advice because this fine might only be a setting to get the farmer in a better spot to sue you. also the dog would be a dumb dog if he did not chase it.

Dog at large? That's pitiful, was the dog on the farmers property? If he doesn't have any pictures or proof it may be a hard thing for him to get money off of you. Don't agree to any statement or resolution, he could get you on it :p

Good luck
