Bought the sled a month ago. The smile never leaves my face when riding it. What a cool sled. I was wondering is how big the fuel tank is. I don't have an owners manual. How esay is it to find a Clymer manual on this thing? It doens't seem to have a dip stick for the chain case. How much oil does it hold?

Thanks Phazer Phans out there

I think the tank is 5 gallons Canadaian, there is a bolt on the cover of the chaicase more then half way down when you take that bolt off that is where your level is supposed to be....I have n't seen a Clymer manual for any Phazer past 1989 ..............Just sold my 1992 Phazer ST I am going to miss it ..........

I believe the tank size is around 8.3 gallons, that's how much my 1990 holds...

Correct about the bolt on the crankcase, you just fill it till it comes out the hold and you're good.

chain case holds a tick over 8 ounces. Make sure you have a gasket for the cover. If the previous owner didn't change the oil much the gaket will probably tear or crack.

ahhh yes longtrack i figured
thats what i needed the other day up in the mountain...lotta time gettin unstuck...not near as much for me as for the mxz700 the zl 600 and the rx1 ha haaaa! and my phazer has a crazy belt a NASTY! track a completely shot rear shock and a 260 pounder in control. gotta love a phazer
if only i had a decent track and a sensible shock... ah well next season!
long track phazer gotta be good!
and did i see them with high and low range before???

Thanks for the replys, guys.
I ran 60 miles in Cooke City Montana this past weekend and was wondering how accurate the gauge was, as it was showing near empty.

Even with the standard track the thing does suprisingly well. I pulled up to two guys attacking a steep hill with M 1000 Arctic Cats and gave her a good try. Made it up 1/3 of the way up, and laughed with the guys when I got back down. They where impressed.

I see a RYDE FX shock for the rear skid offered in some parts mags. I was thinking of picking up one this summer as well.

Thanks again.

Will have more questions.

i find the gauge isnt too bad just remember that there is still 1/3 of a tank after you hit the bottum of the gauge.....i think i could be mistaken i thought i seen a 1/3 mark right on the bottum take a look.
yeah im going for a ryde fx shock in the spring. SLEDMAN recomended it to me. Im a big boy and need some quality in a shock......
i cant wait to feel the difference its so bouncy now that my friends can hardly ride er cuz they are light and get through around. when i try to climb big hills with bumps its brutal cuz i lose all my traction from bouncing. not to mention my back may never forgive me.
i cant wait to see what a good track is gonna do...im thinkin full block track. any opinions?

Hey could some one post a picture of the a phazer st. My brother has a 91 Phazer II. I know it has a 121'' x 15'' in track and electric start. Does the ST have a larger seat then the II?

I'd be interested to see any pictures that anyone has of these old phazers. here is the one that my family has, it was my mom's machine until she stopped having an interest in riding. Shes still in pretty good shape, only has about 4,000 miles on it. I'm not sure what model or year it is.

Well, that time the crank seals were bad, leaning out that bearing and destroying it. A piece of the bearing retainer travelled up through, past the piston (wrecking the piston and cylinder wall) and into the combustion chamber. There it was crushed repeatedly between the piston and the cylinder head (wrecking the head and piston (again). Then the motor locked up when the bearing finally decided it didn't want to work anymore.

The rebuild cost itself didn't cost too much really... $100 bucks for the crank bearings. $100 for pistons. $40 for a gasket kit... Probably cost around $250 - $300... I got a used cylinder and reused the head (ground the bad parts smooth).

Lets see what I have done...I'll try and remember...
-rebuild due to engine failure
-rebuild due to fan clogging with snow and overheating
-rebuild due to oil pump malfunction
-rebuild due to ??? (I forget)
-rebuild due to ??? (I forget)
-rear suspension rebuild when the arm broke
-rear suspension replacement (ebay)
-reinforcement of rear suspension to prevent breakage
-multiple weldings of front ski tips (smacking into drifts)
-plastic USI skiis when both tips fell off
-new mounting brackets for USI's when they broke off sending me into an embankment
-better track (found on old exciter)
-running board supports
-kimpex gold shocks in skid
-1/4" bolts through running board for traction
-gutted airbox
-2.5 inch handlebar riser
-new CDI box
-probably more...but that's enough for now!
NEWEST UPGRADE:
Removal of the fairing with riser, lights, and hopefully handguards...
That's where the updated pics come in.

Unfortunately, nobody carries a camera on our adventures. Probably the best pic would have been burying it in a culvert. I got off the trail and fell into a huge ditch full of snow. The sled was so buried you could only see the upper part of the windshield and a side of the handlebar. (I am not kidding, it was almost out of sight...my buddy couldn't figure out where my sled was when he turned around for me...)

I've put so much time and money into the sled its unbelievable. I've resolved to stop putting much more money into it, but the time thing isn't too big of a deal...try and juggle that between the sled and the dirt bike.

HOWEVER...I love the thing. It's so quick for what it is, so light and easy to get out of holes!
Oh well...can't justify buying another one while I'm in college, so this one will have to work!

I can't believe you have had so many problems with your Phazer..I have owned 5 Phazers since I started to ride I have logged on probably more then 35,000 miles between the 5 and never had a motor failure, my buddy seized his Phazer motor because the one oil line coming out of the oil pump has a spring on it that fell slipped down and the line kinked and slowly leaned it out. I have lots of fun working on the front end to tighten the steering, shocks, springs coils, bearings and rebuilt clutchs..I am a heavy person and was never easy on the sleds, Lots of jumping and wide open runs for long periods at a time....Hope you have better luck with it, I am bummed out now that I sold my ST this is the time of year I always used it ............

Actually...all of the engine problems (I think) were related to the oil injector. I took it off last year, and haven't had an engine problem since.

I also have started taking it easier on the sled (which is actually still beating on it, but not quite as bad). My riding partners are the same age (20ish) riding like 20 year olds do on much better sleds. The phazer receives a nasty beating, and somehow still manages to take it!

I just sold my 1991 Phazer II LE in the beginning of 2007. I let it go for 1600 Canadian. I was sad to see it go, but I needed the money and space for the new sled. The gas tank was 8.3 gallons, and there is a 1/3 mark near the bottom of the clear tube. There is lots of gas left when you can't see it in that range. I could get 170 kms on a tank. It was great on gas and oil. It never let me down, and the electric started worked extremely well. Never had a problem starting it up.

Whanker, I can't seem to get the pictures sized right. They appear to be small enough but it just sits on UPLOADING.... and nothing happens.

I tried to modify the picture size in HP Image.

OH well thanks for the help.

You might be right about 10 posts before pictures can be added. Oh well. I have some great pictures of my ride yesterday in Cooke City MT. It was a great day for spring riding. The snow was good until the afternoon when it got soft. Ran the old girl to 10,000 plus feet on one climb. The sled was running out of air! I also had a belt come apart. I was riding with a M7 AC with 153 track. I had to find alternate runs most of the time, as he could go straight up.

Phazers forever.

I put Boyesen reeds in her this week. I highly recommend them. It sure gave her more grunt in the low end, and comes up on the pipe nicely. I made it up a hill I have been trying all winter....yeah, the snow is packed but it still was a good climb. I had some big dog sleds at the bottom giving me the thumbs up.

Has anyone put on some sort of engine torque arm on a Phazer. My clutches are getting mighty warm.....can smell the belt. I think that the engine is moving. My wife's sled, an '01 seems to have a better engine bed system. Anyone have some pictures of any mods on an older Phazer torque arm?

Thanks....

Nice looking, Melrose. Did you do any aftermarket hopups? I am looking to put a pipe on it and go rich on the jetting so as not to burn it down. I am planning to put a 1 1/2 inch 136 on her. I hear the way to do it is with 7 tooth drivers to gear it down and make room for the track.

I dont think anyone makes one torque arm. You could make one . If you see that motor move you may have another problem.
