: Wierd Ebay Experience
Downriver Thunder 03-21-2007, 06:42 AM I won a leather Suzuki riding jacket off Ebay last night for $163, mint, the seller is in California. This morning when I get to work I check my email and I have a message from the seller. It says that one of the other bidders is from San Francisco, (2.5 hours away), and at his house right now with $250 cash and wants him to end the auction early. The seller says he can't and tells him no. I wonder if this guy was trying to see if I would offer more money at the last minute. The other bidder seems to have registered with Ebay 6 days apart from the seller, and I wonder if it isn't the same guy. Strange.
labudda 03-21-2007, 06:46 AM If you haven't ppaid already I would mention this in your paypal description. makes it easier to get your money back, and yes I believe he was trying to pull a fast one.
Downriver Thunder 03-21-2007, 06:49 AM It's covered by their guarantee, so I went ahead and sent payment. I put in the comment box, "I hope you didn't sell the jacket to the other bidder", just incase I have to file to get my money back.
idooski 03-21-2007, 07:15 AM It sounds like he was scamming you. I hope it all works out for you.

As stated by others, it does sound like a scam. You should feel pretty confident though since you paid through PayPal. I have been screwed in the past with eBay purchases but will only buy from sellers who accept PayPal.
Good luck and let us know.

That's why I went ahead an paid it, if it's bogus I will get my money back. I noticed that payment is still pending, looked it up on paypal and he's not even registered with them. hmmmmm
Downriver Thunder 03-21-2007, 12:06 PM He just sent me an email. He said he gave ebay his bank account information but it must not have worked and wants me to send a money order. I wrote him back saying that I only deal through paypal, that way I am insured.

I like to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, but after this, it's very hard too. I would say the deal might not happen now.. How long will it take paypal to return the money back to you? This is very interesting indeed. Keep us informed ok?

TallCool1 03-22-2007, 09:09 AM Stick to your guns Rob. Definitely a scammer on the price issue, just hope you actually get your jacket. I've had a couple guys TRY to do that to me with sleds/parts. The bad thing is, even if he's fake and you get your money back, it still leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Will be interesting to see how well PP deals with you if this deal does fall through.
revracer500ss 03-22-2007, 12:08 PM very wierd, probably a scam.....
Downriver Thunder 03-22-2007, 12:35 PM This is what's happening now. I canceled the payment so I'm waiting for the money to show up in my paypal account. It's already come out of my checking at National City. I haven't really decided what to do yet, but I bought a brand new one from flyinbrian in Zeeland, MI. I got an 06 factory Suzuki coat for $420. He told me that he reregistered with paypal using a new email address and all is fixed now. I don't know what to do. Do I tell him to shove it and take the negative or try to finish the deal? He is being very genuine about it, apologizing left and right, being patient even though I have been less than polite. Here's a link to the auction for the used coat and one for the new one.

TallCool1 03-22-2007, 02:50 PM I would go through with it Rob, then contact the next highest bidder, or relist it if it's something you really don't want at that time.
Downriver Thunder 03-22-2007, 03:28 PM I could go through with it and use the new one as a Sunday go to meeting(church) coat.
snofrog 03-22-2007, 03:35 PM did you look at sites like

No, didn't do much searching. I already knew what I wanted, seemed like everyone had the same pricing everywhere I looked.
puree 03-22-2007, 08:53 PM pay for it and ask him to send the addy of the guy who was gonna pay him the 250$,,,, then offer it to him and turn a quick profit,,,, LOL
Downriver Thunder 03-26-2007, 08:46 AM I told this guy to shove it up his you know what. I wrote him telling him that when the money is put back in my paypal account I would send the money. He was fine with that and said no problem. Saturday night he sends me 2 emails through ebay. One saying "okay, what's going on where's the money". I told him paypal only does this stuff on business days, not weekends and that I think the money will hit monday. I open up the second and he says "are you going to buy this or do I need to relist it". That put me over the edge. I wrote him back saying that this was all his fault, not mine I had already send the money once but because he didn't have a valid paypal acct he couldn't claim it. I told him also that he can relist it if he wants, but I did intend on buying it and honoring the agreement. I finished up by saying that I will be waiting for him to tell me what he is going to do and that I didn't know if I even wanted to send the money anymore. I don't want to be one of those guys that we complain about, I have stood by every auction I have had, selling and buying. This guy pissed me off so bad I couldn't fall asleep last night.
snow4mydooplz 03-27-2007, 05:21 AM awww.. Don't get so upset and mad Thunder.......Tell this guy your going to deduct the interest off the amount that you lost while paypal had the money tied up... LOL LOL That might turn the tables and scortch his shorts. :p
Smile, It's the little things in life we just have to NOT let get to us. This guy sounds like a greedy you know what. Your the better man and he knows it.
