It happens all the time across the country. Heck, I think last year lower WI had more snow for a while than the northern area did. Central IL gets dumped on sometimes too, while Chicago and so. IL gets next to nothing.

Team arctic I bet that storm rolls accross the Great lakes and picks up even more precipatation. then dumps it in the traditional lake effect zones.

What we really need is a couple of very cold weeks to freeze the ground like the swamps and stuff. Otherwise if it snows early it wont stay, every time we get a warm spell it melts from the ground up. Maybe it will be different this year :D

no no no permafrost i think i may have said something wrong.. thats a chart of predicted amounts of precip for the next 30days... not a storm cell so this goes untill november 24- 02

Sorry guys, but look at the dates on the top of the picture. It's dated September 24 to October 24. The map isn't prediction, but a summary of precip that was received over the last 30 days. As for why Canada doesn't show much precip, our Nexrad radars weren't set up to reach very far over the border. I've pulled up weather information for many Canadian cities to see what the weather is like up there, and cannot get any radar images at all, regardless of where I've looked up, which have been primarily in the western Provinces.

There is no way anyone can predict the weather more than say, 10 days out. I do not even listen to long term forecasts anymore. I guess they can get the heart racin', however!

Check out www.johndee.com

He has an "Ask John" section, where you can ask him, John, weather questions. He is an educated and experienced meterologist. He lives in the UP and is also a snowmobile freak. He is an expert on lake effect snow.

Check it out, it's pretty cool for us snow lovers. He also has tons of weather related links. And also puts out a daily forecast text and graphic for the midwest. He tends to be a tad optimistic, but that gets the heart racin' also!

Nope.

But I certainly like hearing what they have to say. Just don't put any stock in their predictions.

I was up in Eagle River musky fishing last weekend. When we took off on Monday there was around 4-6 inches of snow on the ground. Getting the Ranger out of the boat launch was fun. I will have to post a pic when I get home.

If you want good radar information from canada, Environment Canada has a great web site at:

http://weatheroffice.ec.gc.ca

because of our more sparse population, there are not as many radar stations in some regions though.
