I have a 98 Mach Z and recently installed a set of Carbon Tech reeds (the high tension ones). The instructions included a quick jetting guide for flatslide carbs but nothing for round slides. Does this mean that you HAVE to make these corrections/adjustments if you have flatslides (which all Zeds do)? It talks about adjusting the idle mixture, selecting the proper pilot and main jets and choosing the propoer needle and clip position (I recall reading on this forum that one should not play with the needle/clip position on Mikuni flatslides as you risk burning down). I was under the immpression that you just installed them and left everything stock (in terms of jetting and mixture adjustments). Should I be concerned or just take it out with the stock jetting and mixture settings and see how it responds (I should also probably mention that I have a Tempa-Flow on it)?

In stock form no matter if u have the flatslide or roundslide they are going to be a little fat from factory. So if it say to drop the piolet 2 sizes and keep the midrange the same and jet up one size biger on main than thats what u do or both style carbs. But if it just gives u jet sizes for the flatslide carbs than its a little tricker. I would leave it stock and do a plug test in all throttle postions!!

It's actually not too specific. It says to adjust for the proper idle then adjust the air screw for the best response and then re-adjust the idle. It then says to adjust the needle and clip for the best performance. After this it says to select a main jet to give the best WOT performance and then go up one size. As you say I'll probably just take it out for a spin and see how it performs (if anything it sounds like it will be on the rich side). I'm hoping I can leave it how it is and was just curious if anyone else has put these reeds in their Mach Z and if they had to make any adjustments (I would hate to burn it down playing around).

Stock jetting from factory was 330/340/330
310/320/310 (after recall)
I'm using 300/310/300 with Vforce II with no problems.

KawaBoga, did you play with your needle and clip position and pilot jets or just left them stock. Was the reason for dropping a jet size because of the reeds or do you normally jet down one size anyhow?

My dealer ( with a big drag racing background ) tell me its safe to go down one size with Vforce.
You need to adjust your needle for richer mixture too , like 2 position but i can`t remember exactly.
hope this help.
