: What Makes You Want To Snowmobile?

What makes you want to snowmobile? Is it the scenery, friends, the power of your throttle, the powder under you, getting away? I know it could be all of the above, but what is it you look forward too when you know your going to go?

For me, I do love fresh snow to make new tracks on, I also love the atmosphere when a bunch of people get together talking sleds and trails ect...

and of course, it's all my friends who can relate to the passion of this sport !

BUT, I think one of the best things about snowmobiling is how you can forget everyday stresses when you put on your helmet, it's like magic as everything goes away even if it's just for a few minutes.

I just love the fact that you are out in the middle of nowhere, with your best friends and riding machines in deep powder. Also, the rush of riding is great!
It is a great moment for me, to not only realize the beauty of nature, but have an activity that me and my friends can enjoy toegether.

Snowmobiling is my Passion. There's nothing like being someplace nobody else can go unless they are doing the same thing. No Bugs, No Heat. The feeling of the Frozen Air in my face when I ride with my visor up. The way the world looks after a new fallen snow. Making new tracks, Cruizing with Slednutts like myself. A blast across a frozen lake. Sitting atop a Moutain looking out over the Scenery below for miles. Kneeling on the seat as I ride down the trail watching the Sled glide through the snow and the skis cutting a path through it. The excitment, The rush, Cruising in total darkness at night, Shutting down the sled in the middle of nowhere and just sitting there listening to nothing but the wind, I could go on forever. It's better than sex.......

I love it because it takes a special breed that wants to snowmobile, same with riding motorcycles. Snowmobiling takes you to places you normally do not see providing you with such beautiful scenery. You also have the comradery of fellow snowmobilers that also have the same desire to be there as you. Nothing else compares to it in the world.

I like it because its pretty much the only thing you can do in the snow. Theres nothing like a snowmobile, a 4-wheeler is nothing compared to a snowmobile (IMO)

For me its a way to escape from everything and have the freedom to go wherever you want. Kind of. The sled is one thing that I can go out for a nice easy ride by myself and cruise and take in the scenery and have a great time or I can be riding with a group of friends and be having a ball also.

Sledding is a great release where I can get out of control from a career that I have to remain in control too much. The thought of high marking that next mountain run or boondocking a virgin glade. Just kicking back and reflecting the day's events. Just nodding in agreement with MikeD even though with our helmets on and sleds running I can't hear a darn thing he's saying LOL

Life is stressful,,,, thats a fact. when you gear up, get on, and fire it up,,,,, there is NO stress. I can go out and run the trail by myself all day, I can ride with a group of 20 friends,,,, it doesnt matter,,,, its a great way to clear the mind,,,, now, in about 5 months, theres a chance I can clear my mind once again,,,,

How true is that Brian? Geeez it's amazing how your head get's cleared when you ride. Oh sure the stress of life will pop up once in awhile as you go down a long flat stretch but it goes away just as fast as it came.

I like it because it makes me feel like a kid again... I am usually grinning ear to ear under my helmet and talking to myself saying things like "this is GREAT!" "awesome, groomed smoothie!", "perfect temp".. etc. etc.... I don't know why, but I've never been cold on a sled, is that just our riding gear? or the excitement of sledding... When I'm NOT sledding on a winter day, I get cold... very strange... I also think a snowmobile is like the ultimate sports car, just on snow...The power of todays sleds is mind boggling compared to what was the norm in the early 70's. You can't NOT smile every time you crack the throttle.. I really hope science is wrong and global warming will stop or reverse in our lifetime and we will continue to be able to enjoy the sport.

STRESS is gone :D I always try to find a way to get out. I never make plans in the winter unless it is to do with snowmobiling. I like after a ride & someone tells me that I smell. I laugh & tell them that it is my calone. I look forward to riding new places & meeting people that enjoy this sport as much as I do. I like to say the cold but I would ride in any temp.

FREEDOM!

That's sums it all up. Snowmobiling is the one sport that covers ALL RIDING STYLES. When the conditions are right, the racer style riders can most safely (compared to some other sports) ride to their hearts content, while the groomed trails allow riders of all speeds and styles to come together and ride to their hearts content. Everyone has the same goal: ride to your hearts content. Everyone has the ability to get out, enjoy the power of the sled, the freedom to go where you want and places you typically can't go (let's face it, a quad can't go everywhere) and it allows you to take a step away from the everyday stresses with life and simply do something you and everyone you meet enjoy doing. A winter utopia, if you must call it that. Before I discovered snowmobiling Heaven for me was warm, and Hell for me was freezing cold. Now I know that Heaven can truly be white, as the snow brings so much happiness for me now.

:)

I thought of that too, it cost me alot of money. But for some reason I don't think of that when I am riding. As for break downs I don't care for them, but I love working on sleds or helping other people getting there sleds fixed & ready to ride :D

I like snowmobiling because there is just nothing else like it, i like it when it can create those butterflys in your stomach and afterwards when you have a big smile on your face from ear to ear. And i love it because i can spend time with my family and you can go places you have never been before, its just all one big adventure.

i like the fact that there is a system in place that you can use to go places safely without tresspassing. during quad season around here you have to be able to withstand rock salt because you are running on crops or the paved trail.

I like the fact that in my area the snow opens up the land to riding you cant do with an atv, the freedom to make your own path. There's nothing like getting ready to ride on a cold day, most people are trying to stay warm inside but I see the snow blowing outside and can't wait to get out into it. The anticipation of waiting for snowfall, waking up in the middle of the night to the sound of the plow truck driving by, or being at school or work and watching it snow like crazy outside while you're stuck inside. I like the off season, when I'm wokring on my sleds, customizing is half the fun. I like the first test rides of the year, making sure things are in working order, or breaking in freshly rebuilt engines, or just plain breaking things. I like just cruising along checking out the land, and I also like hitting a hill wide open and climbing to the top. I like making it back home with everything still running and working, I almost anjoy making trail repairs too :D I enjoy meeting great people and seeing new areas. I do a lot of other activities, but none of them seem to get me as excited as snowmobiling.

ROTFLMAO, Poor Mikey. It's a good thing we all love him as we do.
It is amazing he tolerates us like he does since next to Paul Yarek, Mike does endure more than his fair share of teasing.

For me, it's all about time with family, friends, nature, awesome scenery and THE EXHILLERATION OF THE ACCELERATION!!!! Nothing like all that adrenaline rushing through your body to wash away the stress that life brings us. I also enjoy wrenching on the sleds with Cody and Jacqui.
Whoohoo! Only 210 more days until sledding season.

You guys are all too much fun!

Sledding to me is getting outside and enjoying myself with a bunch of friends ... I can't wait to get back at it and hopefully have a bunch of you visit again next year!!

BTW ... we've officially started the next adventure. The lot has been purchased, and as of this past week end, a driveway and building site has been cleared and an outhouse is in ...

We'll see how it goes, if all goes well (including the $) we MAY be sledding out of it this season.

Hi Mike

I'm an unlicensed go pher.
Just let me know when and I'll do my best to work it into my schedule.
I can help out with general building stuff but you will definitely have to have someone that knows their stuff and can give direction.
Are all the trees cleared Mike? I can help with that.
I happen to know a young big muscled lad that I'm sure would want to help as well and his skills are way greater to what you need than what I have to offer.

Are you up to getting together soon for that brew & dinner I owe you for your birthday?

Perfect ... I'm the same way. I love building and working but I just not familiar with codes and stuff. Obviously, I can't do the excavating and such, but when it come time to build forms etc. I'm OK with that.

Done, cleared and brushed. All I have to do is split and stack the stuff I kept. Mind you, there is lots of that .....

I happen to know a young big muscled lad that I'm sure would want to help as well and his skills are way greater to what you need than what I have to offer.[/b]

It would be great to have you and Cody up for the day sometime ... If you ever want to get away for the day or just happen to be in the area, c'mon over. There is nothing in particular that I need yet, but as construction progresses ....

Are you up to getting together soon for that brew & dinner I owe you for your birthday?[/b]

We should try to do that soon, I still have your dvd's and a bag from the winter ... ;-)

There is not one thing mentioned so far that I would disagree with and those of you who know me know how disagreeable I am.

The hardest thing to deal with about sledding is the sore muscles you have to put up with at the end of the day, face muscles that is, from grinning alll day long. What a great way to spend the day with friends and family

what makes me want to snowmobile??? In the winter once Friday afternoon rolls around I forget all worries, head up with my father to vermont, throw on the gear and head out. The clear air, the family bonding, the outdoors, the adrenaline rush, it all adds up to one of the best things in the world. It is one of the reasons why I can't understand why anyone would ever want to live in the city!

Good thread Snow4! I LOVE the challange of me against the machine, the elements, my riding buddies. There is nothing like opening it up accross a wide open field and feeling/hearing the wind because you are going so fast. It's great exercise (the only kind I like to do) .
Going places you have never been before, seeint all the beautiful scenery and critters. Looking at their tracks and figuring out who/what was there and how long ago.

Freedom. That is what does it for me. That and everyday life itself. I like being out in the woods@ 3:00 am with the snow falling softly, not a sound to be heard, in the middle of the week when nobody is around.
