I don't care much for the new format when you click 'view new posts'.
Is this temporary or is there a way I can change how I few the format?

I am not sure what you mean when you say you don't care for it now.

It still lists all of the new posts since your last visit and also gives you a summary of the post itself. You still have the ability to click on each one to read it, just like before.

Really, the only difference between now and before is the summary is included. If you don't want the summary, just don't read it and click on each individual new post to see what was posted!

That is easy enough :D

It just seemed easier to scroll through the list of topics only.

I found a work around :D

Click the new "My Assistant" link in the upr right. That pops up a new window, click "Today's active topics" in that window and you get the old format.
