I guess I’d just tell everyone the story once, making it easy. Today is a tough day with a lot of pain and soreness. You can go to www.myspace.com/wineguy13 and click on pics to view the photo album of my truck sinking in the river.
Keep in mind that mid April, I put a new transmission in this truck. I just got the truck back on Friday of last week because a deer ran into the passenger side on memorial day weekend. Anyway, on with the story...
I was working on my boat, and backed it into the Kaskaskia river and started the engine. I then noticed that I had not put the plug in the boat. So, I got out, pulled the boat up, and when I went to put it into park, I apparently put it into Reverse. As I was getting out, the door of the truck struck me dragging me to the ground and the truck backed itself into the river. I ended up with a strained LCL in my left knee, knocked loose calcium deposits in my right rotator cuff (shoulder) and broke off a piece of one tooth, and cracked two others. I also have all the scrapes / bruises and bleeding that went along with it.
The truck and boat were under water for 10 hrs before we could get them out, and as we were winching it out, one of the tow hooks broke, and the truck went on its side. Then it rolled over and into tree stumps and rocks.. That's how all the front end damage happened. The underwater search / rescue team did say that I set a new record though for distance. They had never seen a vehicle make it out over 100 feet from the shore. They figured mine made it 115 feet. I guess I can smile about that.
I went to the dentist on Tuesday, only to find that I will have to have oral surgery to remove all three teeth and get implants. I'm really sore today but I guess that goes along with the territory. I'm going to take it easy for a while here. I'm really upset with myself for being careless. Granted, I'm lucky that the truck didn't run me or my legs over, or drag me into the river.
I may get lucky though (good luck) as I am told that I have "the keeper" policy with my insurance co. They told me yesterday that I should be getting a new 2007 exact replacement. I will believe it when I see it. I'm not sure what they'll do with my boat though. It was under water as well and everything shorted out.
Anyway, life is short, be careful I guess.
