It's hard to snowmobile from behind prison bars when your locked up on fraud charges.
You might contact a local Credit Counselling agency that helps you to consolidate all of your debt and work out a budget and repayment plan that you can live with. It may mean having to curb any extra spending for a little while but it'll be worth it in the end. You may also consider just parking them for the next one or two seasons to give yourselves time to catch up on other obligations. This is an extremely expensive sport anymore and the cost of living just keeps going up and up.
Good luck with this. We're all here rooting for you two.
Jeff
idooski 06-22-2007, 11:45 AM Credit counseling is good advise. They take of of problems like this every day. Don't be ashamed. It happens to the best of us.
Hope you stay a part of the site and that you'll come on down to the cook-out again this fall.

flyin-lowe 06-22-2007, 11:55 AM It worst comes to worst I would sell the sleds for the most you can get even if means taking a loss. If you owed 8k and sold them for 7k I would rather try to pay of 1k and save my credit. If you cant afford to pay off the little loss then you will not be able to afford the entire amount of the loan. This is a hobby (obsession for most) but getting into credit troubles is no joke and it can take a long time to fix. I would hate to be without but that is better then having them reposed.
I have never used one of the credit counseling services but I have been told that they reflect very poorly on a credit report similar to having a bankruptcy on there. So you might talk to some one at a bank or someone that handles finances and ask them before you use a credit counselor.
Good luck and no need to be ashamed. With this economy there are more people then ever who have situations come up.

I wasn't aware of that about credit counseling. I guess it might be better to go see a bank to see about a consolidation loan if it's feasible. Have you talked to the bank carrying your present loan(s)? Maybe they would be willing to work out some extended terms for that you can more easily afford. They really don't want to deal with repossessing your sleds any more than you want them to take them. Banks can be quite accommodating sometimes if you are up front with them about your present position.
Good luck!
snow4mydooplz 06-22-2007, 02:46 PM Sorry to hear of this Switch ! The economy in our state is just terrible and I'm hearing more and more about people having to give up the toys in order to maintain the essentials.
One thing to remember is your both young and if it comes down to selling the sleds you will most likely recover and get different ones later.
Sometimes we just have to prioritize what it is we need vs what we want, and make decisions from there.
Do you have a strict budget in place already? If not, get one quick ! Consider if your sleds fit within your budget. ( the payments only ) If you can swing the payments on your budget and maybe just keep them parked this year, that is what I would do. If just making your payments will be tough, well a serious evaluation of what is important should be priority.
Whatever you do, DON'T IGNORE THE BANK ! (answer thier calls and set up an appointment to discuss your options).
I wish you all the best, and remember you are not alone especially in our state at this time. Chin up !

dooman 06-22-2007, 03:38 PM I was under the impression that the only time counciling was bad on the report was if they got creditors to write off part or all of the loan. thus leaving a write off on the report.
cooley 06-22-2007, 07:04 PM good luck switch, i hope you can get yourself out of your troubles soon. call the bank and ask them what options you have.they will help
labudda 06-23-2007, 07:00 PM talk to banks, talk to credit counselors, personal loans work great if used wisely. There is never a bad strike on your report if you talk to a person. PAY THE BILLS! even if it is just $20 on a $200 payment it shows good faith. never pay nothing imo.

Look at it this way-even if credit counselling does reflect poorly on your credit, it's no worse than a bankruptcy or a repo. Credit Counselling, especially if you follow through (and learn from it) al least shows you made the effort to be responsible for your debts....... And if they are sending the repo guy out, I'm guessing the credit score is not so great anyway.
Go, get on a bduget and get out of debt. Good luck!
Rick K 06-24-2007, 02:13 PM I think everyone has given great advise to you best of luck.

FIREBALL 440 06-28-2007, 06:46 PM I don't want to sound like a dick, but somebody has too.
If your so upside down that you cant make your sled payments and you owe more than its worth - just man up and take the hit. The sleds not even that old and you haven't even made that many payments on it. You know you wont be able to sell it in the summer unless you lowball - say $5000 for your switchback - then you still owe on it anyways. I mean come on, there are more important things at hand here like say the house payment.
If your circumstances are that bad, just give it back to the bank cause you cant afford it. Talk to a credit counseler and see what they say. Depending on your other bills at hand, this may be your best bet. It's better to lose the sled than say your car - or your moms car.

I agree. I bet his job is not related to advice on credit. to give it up would hurt badly.

No, I am not a credit consultant. I'm just giving a real world example of what happens every day in the car buisness. Me personally, I may not ever buy a new current model year sled - as the second you take it off the showfloor it depreciates by almost 20% and your automatically upside down. Not knowing all the circumstances in this case (ie. other bills to pay) its hard to say what I'd do. I'm just saying that sled repos aren't uncommon.
Don't get me wrong dude, I really hope you can work it out to keep your sled - it'd be a hard thing to let go.

I too would agree that this is not sound advice given.
It costs nothing or next to nothing ($10 around here.) to explore your options talking with a credit counsellor.
Then you'll have all the facts to make a decision that you can live comfortably with.
So I stick with my original advice.
BTW Fireball, that "Dude" is a "Dudette".

Droptop 08-17-2007, 05:17 PM Whatever you do, don't do anything illegal. It's not worth it when (not if) you get caught.

Bad credit (which will follow you for life) is not worth a snowmobile season.
Good luck.

snow4mydooplz 08-17-2007, 08:36 PM Geeeez Switch.....I'm sorry to hear this happend. I know it seems easy for me to sit here and type this but perhaps a year off of sledding to regroup and figure out things is exactly what you both need to be able to enjoy this sport without all the stress and worry of money.
Snowmobiling is one expensive sport to be in and I know that Rick and I were not always in a position to be able to ride, especially as young as you and Tony are.
It will happen for you two, hang in there, keep your chin up, keep plugging away, and things will start to improve for you both !

XCR583 08-17-2007, 10:39 PM Sorry to hear about everything. I was just wondering this week how things were going actually. Hopefully your hubby can find a job this winter. Id say about taking you up on the offer to stay at your place this winter but the wife would never go for something like that. Me and tunedbyear stayed at Sawman and Tempest's house on here two winters ago and she was a nervous wreck about that. It was great for me and tuned, had a great time. Anyhow good luck finding him a job, Ive read about a couple people in MI having hard times finding jobs, dont sound like the economy is doing that great up there.
TallCool1 08-17-2007, 10:59 PM Boy, being away all summer I missed this. I feel bad for you. Just remember two things.....it's never too late (for you guys to get your credit and finances in line, no matter how little you start with), and good things happen to good people.
I've been in the lending/credit business for 10 years. This is the time to lean on your family if they are able to help. I know it means swallowing your pride a little, but you would do the same for them, wouldn't you? If you have writeoffs out there, get someone to cosign for you and get a personal loan to pay those off. Even if you pay them off, you will still have to hound the credit bureau's to update your credit, but it is well worth it in the long run....like down the road when you want a new car, house, etc. Life is a lot easier with good credit. Stay away from credit counseling if you can (this is why I say lean on your family if you can). CC is a double edged sword....they sell it as a very nice way to manage and pay your debts, but they don't tell you that several lenders will not extend credit when they see credit counseling on your bureau. Right now you need to put your pride away and get things straightened up. One of the biggest faults people have is thinking starting with just $10 or $20 bucks here or there won't make a difference....it will though. Cut out any unnecessary spending for a while, and put that money away or towards a bill.
You guys have each other, and that's a lot more than some other people have. Keep your eyes open for opportunity...it usually shows up when/where you least expect it.

snow prowler 08-18-2007, 10:41 AM Hey Switch. Sorry to hear of this. Isn't there any kind of construction work up there? It seems that with all of Tony's qualifications { being certified / or not } He should be able to find work. I could come up for a weekend in the winter. Just let me know how much your charging. BTW. My offer still stands. Things will get better in time. Everything happens for a reason. Just have to look for what tomorrow brings, instead of today. Think POSITIVE. It will get better. dooman 08-18-2007, 10:20 PM ever think about relocation? I know the railroad has openings for diesel mechanics. some were in the yard so no travel, however travel pays much better. the operators union (heavy equipment) here has a major need for operators.
FIREBALL 440 08-19-2007, 12:42 AM Yeah - the economy does suck. I work for Louisianna Pacific (Georgia Pacific) and we were laid off for 30 days already this year and another 1 - 2 month layoff is scheduled starting Sept. 12. Because of this I have sold my boat and one sled to prep myself for the coming months with reduced pay. I'll have no problems paying the bills but will have to make some lifestyle changes throughout the winter.
I hope your guy finds a job, a CDL and a little driving experience and he should be in good shape. Sorry to hear you lost a sled, hope you can keep the other.
Jack Frost 08-19-2007, 08:14 AM Hey Switchback, most of the OTR trucking companys will train you if you can pass the physical. Try J.B. hunt or Schnider trucking. Most of them start out at 40-50 K per year and they can't get enough drivers! There are always adds in the paper and on T.V. so I would look up these companys online or check out the OTR help wanted online! The will pay while you learn according to the adds! Most people cannot pass the drug screen that is the biggest reason they can't fill the jobs!

they have a huge turnover because of the pay and promissed days off. the pay don't go as high as they advertise and they will not get you home as much as they say. I have a buddy that did go to hunt and was told 45,000. his first full year was the second he was there and only got to 32,000. told home every 2 weeks and will go for months before passing through.

I'm sorry Switch... :( I know you are really bummed out right now. On the sled thing I would suggest a voluntary turn in of the sled vs a repo. I know it would be hard to do but I believe it would save you some money for the repo of it. I'm not sure on this but I think they tac on charges if they have to physically come out and take something. Again, I'm not sure.
You and Tony will be ok, remember that a sled is a toy and it's just not in the cards right now to have that expensive toy. Get your finances together and it won't be 10 years before you ride ya know? You and tony may not be able to finance for a few years, but you can always just buy something outright. It's plastic, rubber, and metal Switch.....Remember that ! You have eachother to get through this....ok?
You know that sleds are not the only thing we talk about here and I hope that you will come here often to chit chat about whatever ! I need help with these men sometimes girl ! lol
I feel sad too but I also feel like maybe this will be a fresh start for you and Tony to be able to get back on track. I'm always just a phone call or PM away if you need to talk. Chin Up !

Well, it seems like I was gone for what happened to you switch... I read previous posts on the subject, and I feel terrible for what you had to go through. I know that if it was me, I wouldn't even be able to write the reply you had about losing your sled. Things are tough right now, but once you are a rider you will always be a rider. Keep thinking positive and everything will work itself out.
keep positive,

LadyK 08-29-2007, 04:28 PM Switch...I feel for you losing your rides and the job situation..we have always paid cash for our rides and finance things like cars..have faith,, there will be other buggies in your future I am sure of it..Maybe before you buy your next ride save what cash you can to buy them outright, then you wont have the worries of payments..Here in Canuckville we have coin for 1's and 2's, we throw them all in a jar (or try to Tim Hortons doesnt take interact) and use them for vacation or toy purchases, even trail passes. Good luck girl and dont worry things WILL look up for you.
snow prowler 08-29-2007, 07:09 PM Hey switchback. So sorry that this happened. I ain't got the words to describe on how I feel for what you went through :( . If it's any consolation. When I can make it up there to your area to ride. I'll let you take my sled out for a run.
