Auto123.com reports that GM has recently announced that it will offer a state-of-the-art Duramax turbo diesel motor for some of its light-duty trucks as early as 2009 for some vehicles including the post-2009 Hummer H2. Perhaps the most impressive feat of the 4.5L diesel is that fact that it will meet the tough emissions standards set for 2010. It will also be compliant with all state regulations effectively making it one of the cleanest diesel vehicles ever produced. The Duramax diesel 6.6L V-8 has been produced in the U.S. since the 2001 model year and over 1 million have been sold.

Ya, the Nissan Titan is supposed to have a diesel as an option next year I think. If they do it, you know Toyota wont be far behind. Lot of money to be made in the smokers!!

It's about time North America becomes a Diesel Economy. Europe has been for years and there's some pretty good high perf stuff charging down the Autobahns & Autostradas. With Ultra low Sulfur fuel that's well refined, emissions will be at par with gas engines. Fuel retailers will have to come to the table too because poor quality fuel is the kiss of death to high pressure systems.

Did someone say Diesel? :)

Honda is also entering the Diesel market. They have been taking a beating on their hybrids as they are 4K more expensive than similar offerings from Toyota.

They have had 1500 diesels at the prooving grounds for almost a year, as per a friend who works at the PG.

Limiting factor has been cost. Anyone ready to pay $40k for a 1/2 ton truck? This is your chance LOL
