Today is a very sad day. Our dog of 10 years is being put to sleep due to health reasons. We got Chloe, an English cocker spaniel 10 years ago when she was just a few months old and raised her as a member of the family. She was born on April 1, 1997 and was a pedigree'd dog. Three days ago she developed problems walking and couldn't walk up the stairs anymore. Her hind legs will just fold up underneath her and she also stopped eating. I could get her to take dog treats but nothing else. We made the decision last night to have her put down today. After having this done I am taking her up north to the cottage for her final rest on our property where she loved to run around. She did alot of her growing up there and this way we can visit with her when we go there. My wife, daughter and I are taking this very hard, my wife the hardest, but it's not fair to Chloe to suffer like this. We can't think of our feelings in a case like this, only hers and it's not fair.
Chloe, we love you very much and will miss you. You can never be replaced and will not. Megan is taking this very hard but her hurt will heal in time. You will always be in our prayers and I am very sorry I could not do more to help you in your time of need.

I know this feeling all too well :(
It is a tough descision and one not taken lightly.
Hold Chloe and whisper in her ear what a good dog she is.

I am so very sorry to hear this, I have a Golden Retriever that was born the same month & year as your Chloe. And he starting to show signs of arthritis in his back legs. It will be very hard on me when it's his time. Your Dog will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Downriver we understand your sorrow. Just reading your post gives me goosebumps and reminds me of the day we had to put Cyrus down. It was three years ago this coming November. Time will help heal the wounds, as we have many fond memories of our dog. We are just now at the point of looking for another one.
Here is a pic of our dog with his girlfriend. Cyrus is the Pitt on the right. I am also attaching a pic of the dog that we want.

What an absolute Heart Wrenching thing to have to go through. So very sad for everyone.
Time is the healer.
I had a Cocker Spaniel as well........In fact in memory of my friend he's in my avatar under my sled. I did not get to enjoy "Henry" as long as you due to a very unfortunate accident but He was indeed a very loyal and very loving friend.
Thoughts are definetly with you and Yours.

Thank you all so much. She's at rest now guarding our cottage. I had a scrap 1x2 in the shed I put in the ground as a marker along with her cement figurine. I am going to make a nice cross for her and a name plate for it. I even put her collar on the figurine.
