I just opened the mail and received notification from corporate Holiday Inns that my hotel is a winner of the 2007 Service Excellence Award. We are so excited and honestly, just a bit shocked, but will take it. There are only 10 hotels selected from over 3000 for this award. Our hotel won this award two years in a row back in 2003 & 2004 and have worked hard to get this again.
Hats off to my staff for a job well done!

The hotel sits on the ocean in New Smyrna Beach, FL about 11 miles south of Daytona Beach, home of the Daytona 500 NASCAR race.

I am in the funeral business too. My wife is the General Manager of the Settle-Wilder Funeral Home here in New Smyrna Beach and I'm the General Manager of the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites in New Smyrna Beach. I do 95% of the embalming at the funeral home, mostly middle of the night and weekends, because the other funeral director does not like to get up at night. He is retiring in 6 weeks so I'm sure to get more work. I on the other, still love those 2 a.m. embalmings. I also cover every other weekend as a funeral director, such as today where we have two funerals and "I be the man."
Go to the funeral home website and look under staff. You will find a picture of me standing before my most favorite place in the world, you got it, Mackinac Bridge. Oh yeah, I'm also standing in a cemetery in St. Ignace where this picture was taken.
