How do you like mine?
[attachment=39901:SW_cooko...2007_057.jpg]

I ask you this because snofrog made this up for me and has another request to make one for a fellow SWer. In order to make it really worth the time and effort he really would like to make around 5 at a time. these reall provide a lot more area for you to put "stuff", a renegade can't carry bags and jerry cans with the stock rack which is why I wanted this one made. So I wanted to know if anyone else was interested.

the rough dimensions are 16 7/8s wide 21 length and 3 inches tall. It is all aluminum with 3/4 inch hollow bar for electrical. Also has slots cut out for the doo jerry can and for other tiedowns. This can be made without the led oval as shown below. Keep in mind many people are putting LED's on the top of the snow flap. Estimated price 100-200 depending on what light is chosen, powdercoating is available but I can't provide a timetable or cost for that. If 2 are ordered by an individual a discount might be applicable (hint trailblazer). some more pictures.... mine is being powdercoated matte black BTW.

I guess I'm the instigator of this run of racks.
I really like the look of it just the way it is and it'll look sweet with the other aluminum stuff I've ordered for this season.
I was looking at a slightly different light for my rack.
Here are the ones I was thinking about getting put on if they are the same dimmentions as Budda's.
The first one should be very brite with 60 LEDs in it. I think I've seen both types on trucks going down the hwy and they are way briter than reg. tail lights.
clear lens 60 super brite LEDs (http://vehiclelight.com/1t15ri.html)
E-bay set of clear lens 10 red LEDs (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-pair-6-Inch-C-LED-Oval-Truck-Trailer-Boat-Lights_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ50072QQihZ018QQi temZ280165411825QQrdZ1QQsspageameZWDVW)

I like it alot too. Wonder if if would bolt on to a Dragon rear end. I can live without the LED, I'd just relocate my stock brake light to the rear.

Use Budda's demmentions and check your Dragon. I know that Snofrog can make them without the LEDs. The rack would look like it does in Budda's pics without the light added.

I don't think so especially since it does not sit on the frame. This light is wear sunglasses bright.

Fraz any 6 inch oval will work on this, they are standardized. I think the 60 will not be much brighter then the 10, I think they are different size led's but not positive. (Mark are they bright?) I like the clear 10 led you had there

I picked up on the very subtle hint Matt. LOL

Cody just bought the parts for the X type tail light holder.
He's going rack-less and he also removed the black plastic tray piece.
Going for that Shiny-Hiney look. lol

Speaking of that, I do agree with others Matt, that the rack would look better polished than black.

I've got an idea in mind as to what I want to do with mine.
I've got almost all the parts but I need to rewire the garage to be able to get the welder going in there to be able to fabricate the rack. That's next summer's project.
It does involve a similar LED tail light as yours but a different bracket type.
It'll be made to be used in conjunction with my summit rack storage bag and the way it mounts now.

So not to knock Mark's great quality craftsmanship, but I want my own design.
I'm sure Mark understands.

If you say yours is that brite. I'll trust your judgement on it and ask Snofrog to make it with one like yours only with the clear lens if posible.
I really like the idea of the LED assembly being a standard industry size.
I'll be able to get an exact fit replacement light at any truck stop if it breaks.

This is the one you recamended rite?

Actually Fraz any 10 LED light is what I have. The one I thought was like mine was only a 6. just search ebay for "oval led" and look at the 10 or 60 led's and they will be fine. Without a doubt this is brighter then my stock one.

If you guys have any questions don't hesitate to call, email, pm whatever..I'll get back as soon as I can, ours are going to be a little different then the others but hopefully it won't be too much of a pain in the A#$ for you to make. Have you guys ever tried to make a rack that fits while a 1+1 seat is on a gade? All I am trying to do is get a bag behind the extra seat, but they all say they aren't compatible with it. It looks like there should be room for something back there!

Of course I don't have the sled so I can't actually look at it yet. Dealer says 7-10 more days and 'most' of the sleds should be in. The way my luck runs it will be everything BUT the 600 Gades...

thanks!

Now I just need to get it here. I am losing valuable garage time! :)

Matt- forgot to mention in the first post - NICE looking sled! :D

One question I have on the LED lights - I have heard (second or third hand) that since they don't heat up they won't melt off snow buildup like the regular lights do. After a while the snow builds up enough that you can't see the light through the snow. Anyone have direct experience with them that can confirm or deny this?

thanks!

SnoFrog, Thats awesome...Will they be done by Satruday? I could pay cash at the Novi show for the two custom ones that I ordered. I'm not sure if I could coordinate that with you and Matt, we could go out to your vehicle or something...I'm assuming there will be no issue with the hieght and plate for our tail lights?

This is the tail light that we are going to use, if you wanted to see it...

all dimensions were good with Mark. I hate to speak for him but the only thing I think we have not touched on is were you wanted the 13x2 plate. Forward, rearward or centered. I would assume you would want it flush with the 3/4 bar seatside rather then bumper side. that way when lifting the sled the led is tucked under the bar and will also make it easier for mounting the LED.

Dave, thanks for the compliment on the sled, lots of time there. The LED's do not get as hot which is why everyone here is mounting them to the rack rather then the flap so far. The led's are very bright and do generate some heat. I think it will be no worse then a bulb light. Every time I stop I wipe mine clean anyway, I want to be seen not felt.

mxzeatr
10-29-2007, 04:11 PM
The 13x2 plate would just be centered right on the bottom of the bar. That would be perfect. Thanks a lot Matt...Let me know about getting the racks this weekend or paying the deposit this weekend.

Just a quick question regarding this topic - moreso the LED lights.

I've been thinking about customizing the tail of my Rev (taking off the black plastic and putting on an LED taillight).

Question is..

Is it a simple wire job to hook up an LED or is it fairly complex?

What is a '121 gade'? Did someone get a Renegade then shorten it? I have heard of people lengthening a short track, but never shortening a long track...

BTW - the standard tunnel bag for a gade fits behind the 1+1 seat without any problems. I don't know why people kept telling me it couldn't be done - didn't even have to modify anything! Looks like no rack for me this year - the wife is starting to grumble about the cost of the accessories for it. Hopefully just gas and oil for the rest of this season - then I will see what I 'need' for next year! :)

all that is needed is the proper dimensions and it can be made. PM snofrog so that you can discuss the mods needed to make it fit. The 12 inch led might be a tad too long though, the distance between bends in the back is only 11 inches.

Has anyone else ordered racks and have them yet??? I'd like to see what others are doing...[/b]
2 went to Alaska to a fabricator. He was going to make a box like mine for the oval led he already uses. 1 like yours went to iansmxz for black powdercoat. Mark just made a shorty to go on a 121 with a Boss with no light. And Fraz should have his soon, exactly like mine but not powdercoated. I think there was one or 2 others as well.

Thanks Dave! I'll be having to learn to do circles on her too, I'm new to the whole 47" ski-stance thing...My Summit would carve w/o any effort or snow depth! :)

Thats awesome, glad to hear that he is doing some more...Hopefully everyone will return pics for us to look at.

I'll take some pictures of my wiring when I get home tonight. It was really simple and I think it was the best way that I could have done it. Hopefully I won't forget...I'll write a note! :whistling:

Just a quick question regarding this topic - moreso the LED lights.

I've been thinking about customizing the tail of my Rev (taking off the black plastic and putting on an LED taillight).

Question is..

Is it a simple wire job to hook up an LED or is it fairly complex?[/b]
Wiring is simple, just make sure that is has 3 wires. Now choosing an LED and mounting it takes a little ingenuity.

I'm still waiting for mine. It must be held up at the boarder. The blue powder coating looks great. I'm leaving mine as is for now.

That is some funny stuff.

We shipped out like 6 others and they all arrived fine. The 121 I called "mini-me got to the guy and he likes it... so even the shorty's can use these.

Just got a measage and it cleared TO customs station A this morning. I should get notice of it in tomorrows mail. Yee Haa.

They always pick me or my mail orders for closer inspection at the boarder. At least the mail orders get across sooner or later. LOL

Looks way better in real life.
It's nice and light. :)
I may have to tweak the suspension to keep it from being nose heavy now.
I've been working on another project but hope to have it on by Mon. night. I'll take a couple picks when it is.

Mark,
No issues with the install or the fitment for my Dad. The only issue I had with mine is that the hole in the middle that was drilled was right at the line of my tunnel extension and existing tunnel, exactly half way! So all I had to do was drill a new hole...No biggy at all! With a renegade or un-lengthend 121" this wouldn't be an issue...

Finaly got my rack on and tested it out in Cochrane over New Years.
Here are a couple of pics.
I took pics of the LED next to a stoke Gade tail light.
One pic is of just the running lights and one is of the brake lights.
My sled is on the Left with the LEDs

The rack looks at home on my sled and I thank Snofrog for job well done.
The fit was good and my jerry can mounts as good only stronger than the stock brackets.

I take it yours is the bright one, told you they were sunglasses bright  . Looks good on there, now you even have room to take a lunch on the river run with JRBBQ :whistling: .

Any issues with the install? want to make sure all the kinks/nuances are taken care of.. I was the guinea pig and I think we got them all with mine but you never know.

the question is... does it stay bling or powdercoat in the offseason?

Yes labudda, mine is the sled on the left and that light is BRITE.
IMO it was a great choice for safety and replacement availability.
I stopped into Canadian tire and a truck stop in Cochrane and they had spares on the shelf.
Bet I could stop in any town and replace it if it got damaged.

I'll likely leave the rack as it is. Aluminum looks OK to me and it already matches the sled.
This rack is considerably lighter than the stock rack and the jerry can brackets are a lot stronger than the stock ones. My buddy lost his strap last week when one of his stock brackets broke the rivets and it fell off before we noticed it.

IMO the fitN finish is great and I like it just the way it is.

You asked about the fit and I'll tell you what I think, if your looking to refine the design.
You may want to consider adj. the length of the racks top bar to equal the depth of the box behind the round stock when you add a light box to the rack.
The way I mounted mine I put the back of the box flush with the back of the tunnel cover for optimum space.
I have about 1.125" at the front of the flat stock before touching the lower trunk assembly.
As you can see the jerry can stap clips are forward on the rack brackets and adding 0.50" to 0.750" to the R-stock would have centered the clips.

This is purely nit picking as there absolutely nothing wrong with the design the way it is.
If you hadn't asked I wouldn't have said a thing.
P.S. the weight savings didn't stop Mr. stuckedness from getting stuck. Guess it was just wishfull thinking.
