Just curious how many of you guys change rings in sleds on a regular basis?

I have approx 5500 miles on my beast and was thinking it could probably use new ones by now. It had the new psitons added per the recall notice after 1000 miles.

When I was a kid we used to switch them out in bikes in under a hour and we would do it fairly regularily, usually a couple times a season. I'm guessing it wouldn't take more than a few hours on a ZR?

Thanks in advance.

Seems like rather low miles. However, the wear they have might depend on the kind of riding you do and the way the engine has been run. As was said, consider factors which can tell you their condition and go from there. I tend to run Fuji fans' rings at least twice that long - as long as the compression stays up.

You should be able to run longer without worry, unless you've had other problems. However, I wouldn't replace rings without new pistons. You probably have greater risk of breaking a skirt before the rings wear out.
