Heres my 1990 ,I know88,s looked the same not sure about 87

The 88 does NOT look like the 90

The 86-88 have the headlight below the air vents on the cab while the 89-92 have the light on top of the air vents :D

Also the 86-88 had outboard dual shocks on the rear suspension

While the 89-92 had the Fastrack like suspension

Buddy of mine had the 88 Cougar and I almost bought an 89 :)

Also, look in the "Legend" book by C.J.Ramstad, a few pictures in there of the 86's, maybe some 87's. Plus it's a good read on the history of Cat ;)

Here's my old '86. The 86-88's were very similar in looks and graphics. Mine had a PSI pipe which really woke that 500 up.

Pages 178 and 179 in the Legend Book there are pics of an 87... The 87 and 86 were the same machine if I am correct
