How does one get the weather button to work as part of the signature block. I've got the code (see below) but... :(

Go back to your signature update area. You will need to click on the button marked "img". This will bring up a small window that you can paste your link. The site itself will automatically build the script to form the image. I had to do a bit of trial and error for the West Yellowstone banner on mine to see which one worked.

I picked this one for your area:
http://banners.wunderground.com/banner/giz...tions/71628.gif (http://banners.wunderground.com/banner/gizmotimetempbig_both/language/www/global/stations/71628.gif)

It should look like this:

http://banners.wunderground.com/banner/gizmotimetempbig_both/language/www/global/stations/71628.gif

That won't work because what you have in your signature contains html, which the forums will NOT process for security.

I placed the image tags for theweathernetwork's forecast image for your area into your sig.

See if that works for ya....

So Corey...what changes need to be made to the script? For example, here is the script I want to use from the weathernetwork.com:

<script language=javascript>var city = &#39;saskatoon_SK&#39;;</script>
<script language=javascript src=&#39;http://www.theweathernetwork.com/weatherbutton/test.js&#39;></script>

What does it have to look like? I think this is a neat feature to have in the sigs..

<script language=javascript>var city = &#39;bancroft_ON&#39;;</script>

I am not even a 100% sure this actually works yet but, I will give it a try.

For your area, I visited the following to get your code:
http://216.123.177.210/WeatherButton/can/w...ty=saskatoon_SK (http://216.123.177.210/WeatherButton/can/weather_button.asp?strCanCity=saskatoon_SK)

Below the code, there is a weather button. If you right click on the location bar, the source for that is:
http://www.theweathernetwork.com/weatherbutton/can/cityname/saskatoon_SK.gif

Below that, the source for the actual conditions is:
http://www.theweathernetwork.com/weatherbutton/images/YXE.gif

Ok, so if you put the two together in your sig, theoretically, it SHOULD work. So you would have:
http://www.theweathernetwork.com/weatherbutton/can/cityname/saskatoon_SK.gif
http://www.theweathernetwork.com/weatherbutton/images/YXE.gif
in your sig and the button will display.

As far as the code THEY provide with all the <script> junk in it, that will never work. The forum WILL NOT process ANY html code in ANY post, sig, PM, anything. This is strictly for security and must be used.

Give it a try. What I am not sure of is whether or not the above images for the current conditions change within that image. I guess we&#39;ll know in a few hours or so...
:p

Ok, the temps have changed for the Ottawa area and the image buttons have NOT updated. It is possible that they batch update periodically, so we will give them around 30 minutes.

After that, if the buttons don&#39;t update, this isn&#39;t going to work. ???

6
11-04-2002, 10:45 PM
Hey, what do you know, it works!! It looks like they batch update around every 20 minutes or so if there is a conditions change.

Go for it guys..... :p :D

You are using the code that TheWeatherNetwork provides, which will NOT work at all.

On the page that gives you the code, BELOW the code you&#39;ll see the graphic weather button. Right click on the top section of the button and select properties. Copy the URL to the image. Then paste that URL into your signature, but click the IMG button before you do that.

Then, right click on the bottom of the graphic where the conditions are at, then copy that URL. Paste that into your signature, again clicking on the IMG tags BEFORE you paste the URL.

Anyways, yours would look like:

http://www.theweathernetwork.com/weatherbutton/usa/cityname/milwaukee_WI.gif
http://www.theweathernetwork.com/weatherbutton/images/usa/MKE.gif

For anyone else that would like help on doing this, I don&#39;t mind at all.

But please, provide a URL link to the page where you are getting your code. It makes it much easier for me then to have to fill out the forms over and over again each time.

Thanks.

AC,

If you want the graphic image to have the location of where the conditions are from, just go back to that same page and right click on the location of the graphic button. Copy the URL to the image, then go and add that to the top of you sig, just above the conditions.

FYI FOR EVERYONE! When I give you guys your code for your sig, please note that there are TWO images for each weather button. The first image is just the location bar for the weather button, which looks like this:

The code first:
http://www.theweathernetwork.com/weatherbutton/can/cityname/corner_brook_NF.gif

Which gives us this:
http://www.theweathernetwork.com/weatherbutton/can/cityname/corner_brook_NF.gif

The second image in the sig that I provide gives the conditions:

The code:
http://www.theweathernetwork.com/weatherbutton/images/usa/MKE.gif

Which looks like this:
http://www.theweathernetwork.com/weatherbutton/images/usa/MKE.gif

Together, in your sig, they look like this:

Code:
http://www.theweathernetwork.com/weatherbutton/can/cityname/corner_brook_NF.gif
http://www.theweathernetwork.com/weatherbutton/images/usa/MKE.gif

Which produces this:
http://www.theweathernetwork.com/weatherbutton/can/cityname/corner_brook_NF.gif
http://www.theweathernetwork.com/weatherbutton/images/usa/MKE.gif

So, to get both, you must right click on both images. Again, the weathernetwork&#39;s button are two seperate images.

Anyone else need help? Please provide a link to your weather button data!!

Thanks Corey but I wanted 2 location and that gives 4 images (2 for the location and 2 for the weather) which the SW software doesn&#39;t allow, it only allows for 3 images max, that&#39;s what an error message gave me when I tried to put 2 locations so I&#39;ve put it manually.

Yep, I got the same when I tried the last post. I now upped it to 10 images allowed so you can use it if you want.

Sorry, I guess I missed that. :(

Anyways, that is not a full image, part of the weather is text, so you cannot include in in a web page. Try finding a weather source that has it&#39;s full weather button in an image file such as theweathernetwork.com.

BTW, for all those using theweathernetwork.com weather buttons, they just re-designed their entire site which has caused all weather buttons to be broken. You&#39;ll need to find the update image URL and edit your sigs.
