: Rain?

Paradise today has 14 inches on the level according to the paradise Night Riders grooming club. Swamp trails have been broken open and are almost frozen. They expect them to be good to go for Christmas through New year riding.

I'm a little concerned about Saturday''s weather forecast for the paradise area. A Chance for rain showers is in the forecast... It might stay cold enough for snow, and or a brief period of ice pellets before the system coming in takes the temps down enough for just pure snow. Sunday is calling for snow and Monday too..

Our annual trip to paradise is booked/reserved and we are ready to ride. Keep your fingers crossed that this system does not do too much damage to all of our UP riding areas.

Here is a couple pics from an email I recieved from the grooming club up in Paradise.
Taken from my email:

Monday afternoon I groomed to crisp point and west to 4
> miles past rainbow lodge.about a 70 mile round trip...got home at
> 2:00am good base about 14 inches deep and very few brown spots in
> corners. lots of daily logging on vermillion road and west of crisp
> point (on county road 412) to little lake harbor on the groomed
trail
> routes...so be careful...... some big 5 foot drifts south west of
the
> 2-hearted river on trail 8...as they have clear cut logged the area
> and left anything in the winds path . to the mercy of .the
wind.

Seems to always rain during HELL WEEK! And I'm getting sick of it! NO BULL!

That's one of the reasons I have given up on "hell week", along with low snow usually. My buddies and I would always leave late x-mas day to go up for that week, but we stopped doing it a couple years back...it's just not worth it to gamble with our money and time like that anymore. I simply wait until the snow is good before I go up now. I can remember one year that it rained on us for atleast 2 days straight as we sat in the Vegabond waiting for it to turn to snow... :whatever:

Although, this season having a good start, I would have loved to have gone up already...but I am nearing the end of the process of buying my first home, so the money isn't there right now.

I wish the best of luck to you guys!! Sludgemagnet (budda's dad) is heading up early tomorrow and he is worried about the same thing. Pray for cold and snow!!

we've got light rain in the 'cast for sunday as well up in vermont. Theres about 2 feet up there right now, so i'll be riding starting tomorrow through sunday. as long as its only a little rain and the temps drop right back down, it actually might be GOOD for the snow...i'll keep my fingers crossed.

I dont know, it's not looking good  . According to biskit (chipawa snow chasers) there 9-12 inches IN the woods. All plowed roads are bare and trails are showing slushy base . Any riding at this point is out in the sticks and have to trailer out .
I know im not hooking up till after mon am when I see if there is any chance of recovering the snow lost. If you cant get in and out of towns for fuel it's pretty much a lost cause to drive that far . NowI have to make a dession on changing out hyfaxs before we go since the ones that are on will not last a day in low snow conditions.

I follow biskit reports cause he is a NO BULL report since he himself is a rider and NOT a business owner and just want your green backs.

We will be waitting :whistling:

WHY but WHY would you want to ride in Paradice in the first place?
Got to be the worst place in the U.P. to ride a sled!
I think the word "Paradice" had people in some sort of "trans" when and if they woke up they would screem with wonder why they are their.

Here in SE wisconsin we had a pretty good base of about 20 inches, the last 3 days were about 33 deg and higher, and as i write this we are getting a light mist of rain, and 2 inches probably melted off, temps are supposed to drop to low 20's by tonight after the l pressure system passes, and they are calling for 5 inches of snow tomorrow, the snow that is on the ground should freeze solid with the rain we have been getting which will repack the trail base good, and along with 5 fresh inches of powder it can only get better from there, i pray for no rain and all snow, i'm glad december is coming to an end, because once january comes around out temps are usually always below 20deg, and alot of snow should be coming, normally we only have about 5 inches right now but this is a good year..... phazer is in the shop for clutch work, so this is good timing..... trails are temporarly closed due to soft trail base don't want it being wrecked.

Better News......I talked to Chic tonight, she said they are still riding into town from trail 8 and 452. She said it was not ideal conditions but still rideable.........Now here is the better news. They are now under a winter storm watch and she said there local news is saying 6-10 inches of snow forecasted from Sunday through monday......that will freshen it up a bit.

Fingers crossed and THINK SNOW !

Nope , with 10 of us we went with 3 cabins , much cheaper and more space. Plus we save on eating out all the time.

lets keep it civil in here,,, no need to get out of hand. Rick and Allison, I hope you have the best ride you have had in years while your up there. I hope for an abundance of snow for you all.

As for riding,,, I personally dont care where I go,,, I just want there to be snow and be around friends. I have rode with many and cant say there is anybody I wouldnt go up and ride with again. Its about our love for the sport.

I too am feeling the weather pains. We're about to get an inch of rain starting this morning. Then supposedly another maybe foot of snow following it. I can only hope. Our base will withstand it but I hate taking two steps forward and two steps back like this. None of my climbing spots are filled-in yet, and this isn't helping. This will be the second inch plus rain storm in the mountains  this month. Well at least we have been riding fairly often, and every day except one has been somewhere between awesome and epic. Monday will be our 8th day this season and our projected gas and oil budget for the year is up to 3 G's for SLEDS ALONE (good God). The piped RMK is a fuel pig. And yeah, towing with the 7.5L F-250 is also a serious cost even though it's "only" a 50 mile round-trip. Anyway, yay snow, boo rain. I can only pray that we end up spending that much in gas because that will mean we had a long season. Go snow.

Well....that's a perfect scenario for those who can just go on a whim but when you have bosses from work saying NOPE, What can you do?......I can only ride a limited area from the door where we live.

Going to wait and hear from those who were going but probably going to cancel this trip as they just lost way to much snow to even have any decent riding.

Way to much money and time put into sleds to risk tearing up our stuff for marginal snow conditions.

Better day's ahead I'm sure for the paradise area. When it snows good there, we will be there.

Snow4,

Next time we get good snow down here you and Mutt need to get ahold of me, heck ride over here even. We put on 80+ miles down here last Sunday and that was alot of pit stops in between. Easily could have pulled 100+ or more. We were all the way out by Debuck's Sod Farm and out near Mt. Holly as well. Just PM me and I will give you guys my number so we can hook up. There is quite a bit of riding to be had around here if you know where to go :blahblah: .

Later,

I love to be able to go on a whim but I am stuck to weekends. Sometimes I can get the odd day off during the week. Sometimes I get a week off, depends if the group I ride with or myself can afford it. I moved further north almost 2 years ago, so if we get good snow I can get out for a small ride during the week sometimes. I try to get out as much as I can because you just don't know how long the snow will last. Well I hope you get some good snow soon so you can get out for a ride :D
