98' ski-doo formula 3 700 triple and 03' 550F.. both in great condition.. the F3 has 1500mi. and the 550f has 2000 mi... Can't seem to see any wear indicators for the hyfax.. I'm sure they are original... I jack up the sled and it's smooth plastic on the bottom but no idea how thick it is?... Is there a consensus on replacing hyfax?.. every season? every other season? when they need it?.. if so, how do you TELL they need replaced... I can't judge how much I have left before I'm riding on metal.. All riding has been done on snow and dry roads only when we're lost and there's no other option hehehhe...Even then I try to ride on the snow banks if possible, at least one ski anyway... replaced carbides for this season.. When I look at the hyfax thickness at the front where it doesn't contact the track, it's a little thicker than under the track , but maybe just 1/8".. how thick is this stuff?

I replace them when needed or if I have the suspention out & they are close I replace them. There is a thin line that runs down the whole slider. when you get to that, you have about 2mm left. Is there anyway you can get some pics.

I would replace them. Every time I pull the skid to replace bearings I usually check them out. I replace if questionable - cheap insurance. Have you ever had your skid out?

If you take a peek through the track windows at the rear axle, you can see the end of the hyfax and exactly how much is left before you get to rail. It can only tell you the wear at that spot but then look at it from the side and compare the rest. I thought they looked pretty thick but it's hard to tell from those pics.

I would haft to say you are good to go. Nothing wrong with them :D Can you see the line that runs down the slider. That is the line I use. When your sliders are worn to that line it is time to replace.

Tic I would look around the idler wheels for wear . If there close to that line then change them out . A new slide will wear fast for the 1st 1/4 of its orginal thickness then level out . I run mine through a heat cycle before installing them by heating the hyfax up with a torch and then cooling them quick in the snow , seams to harded the plastic a bit for extra life.

I always take in account of what and where ill be riding during certian hyfax wear assesments. When in dought change them out ! or at least have a set to swap out if needed . I always taper the ends so its a easy change , loosen the track drive them out the window and re install less than a hr and done .
Hyfaxs are cheap compared to a rail @300 bucks ea + more of a teardown and time lost from riding.
We had a guy loose a rail last year from a split hyfax, lost a few days of riding waiting for parts.

Thanks guys.. I think I'll keep em on for this season but monitor closely.. I didn't think to look through a track window at the rear axle, duh.. I'll do that too.. I'm sure there's no formula for replacement, depends on riding conditions, etc. etc. Those pics are after 1575 mi. or riding

you do not have any of the worst wear spot. however the rest of them show plenty of hyfax left. you can see the wear line in the pics. I usually change them out begining of the year and watch them over the season as we see dirt sometimes. the sand and stuff we pick up riding ,and never realize it. will wear the faster. I have drilled holes in the wear side of hyfax to pack it with snow and ice, helps with wear and speed.

they look ok. if you measure up by the plastic tips on the rail that should give you like new measurment. then compare all the way down hyfax. they will be wore different at different locations.

Not sure about yours but I used to use a 12mm wrench as a guage if it fits over the side anywhere replace them.

I alwas just use the grafite...seem to last fffoooorrrreeevvveeerrrr and have never had one break. But they do cost ya up front.

If I'm useing plastic I just replace every year...I to have had a close call with a rail due to cracking plastic.
