I'm gonna wire my radar detector in my truck ( so I don't speed ) Just wondering which wire was the positive on. The one that is black or the one that is black with the white stripe?? Thanks.

usually the stripe is ground.does it have a cigarette lighter plug? if so the outer ring is the ground with the center being hot.

Dooman is right, solid color is + and stripe is - .

Also look at the detector itself. It should show which side of the plug is negative, and you can verify correct hookup with a multimeter.

Whatever you do, make sure you don't wire it backwards!! This will automatically focus all Police radars within 5 miles, on you!! :D :D :D

Lol!

I just wired my detector up last week. It had one wire that was black, and one that was black with teeny tiny letters on it (company info). I just ripped the cigarette lighter adapter apart to see which one was hooked to the center, then wired that one as the positive. Turned out to be the one with the logo on it.

Only problem is that I threw the part you plug into the lighter, I had it hooked up to my old truck about two years ago and when I turned it in I took it out and just ran the other cord for my new truck. The other end ( one that goes inside the radar ) if I hook it up and put a OHM reader on it, do I stick the probe inside the end or on the outside of it?

It doesn't matter which end you ohm out. Which side of the plug is ground should be marked right next to the adapter plug on the dectector. If it is center (-), and you ohm out the outside of the plug, then you'll know to hook that up to the hot side of your circuit. If it's center (+), then ohming out the ouside of the plug would be ground.
