A days drive from Mich. to real mountains? I'd try to cross the boarder for that. Got a location I can map out? I'm not very knowledgeable about the US as I usually drive North from London On. to find my powder fix.

dlaine 12-24-2007, 06:02 PM I spent 2 days in cooke city mt last feb - absolutely unbelievable. I have never had an experience even close to that in the mid-west. If you want to stay happy 'boondocking' here in the mid-west then don't go! :)
This is the place we stayed - check out the 'sled report' they keep updating:

45 miles since the last track other than you own, and only 100 miles more of trackless river until you hit the Yukon (River); trackless, that is, as long as you discount the wolf, lynx, moose, wolverine, etc tracks you'll see. Plenty of hills on either side if you can blast through the powder and brush to get to them. Nothing and no one to worry about colliding with either. Also, no gas services, cell phone or radio service, etc.
Nothing but fun! :)

yep that is true boondocking. I like having gas stations around a little bit though. price of gas is bad enough here as well. would be a nice adventure for sure.
800MXZ 12-25-2007, 11:09 AM I would be more than happy to join a ride if anyone from midwest would want to go. I live on the west side of the Twin Cities, well on the way for most of ya LOL!
If you want to go Barry, let me know. I would definately go with ya!
As far as the drive goes, driving across the Dakotas isn't exactly how the computer mapping softwares predict it.
It's nearly a day's drive across South Dakota, and that is in good weather. Unless you have been in this part of the world before, you will shocked at how much of a lack of civilization there is. This isn't a nock on the area, it is some of the most beauftiful areas in the country, but I doubt the roads are plowed anywhere like one expects!
As far as boondocking in the UP, let the Tech Editor take you out for a weekend. I don't think it comes close to comparing to out west, but if you know the knooks and crannys where others don't go.
63November 12-25-2007, 04:20 PM We pay for gas alright, at $5 something per gallon, some places another digit or so higher. However, while the price is up there a bit, we don't have to trailer the machines which costs fuel in a non-fun way. Further, we don't need to pay for expensive rigs to pull those trailers with, so hauling gas, as heavy as it is and not convenient, is a fair exchange.
Whether you like Polaris or not, I do think they were smart (or lucky) in nabbing the trademark slogan "The Way Out." I think of that whenever I ride in remote, head clearing spaces, whether I am on a 'Cat or a Polaris.

Boondocking is what you make it no matter where your at, seeing how fast my sled can go is a complete bore to me  .
With that said Team JasonF will be in Moran Wy the first week in Feb. :sly:
