Finally Got My Sled To Handle After 6 Years!

Thought I would share a stupid little story about something so simple and was overlooked.

For the past 6 years, I have hated the way my 01 MXZ handled. Always darting around and very twichy in some conditions. Never understood how some people could pass me the other direction at high speeds and feel comfortable using one hand to signal.

Well this year I changed my skis, and before I did, I thought I would check the toe out as a starting point before I made the change. Come to find out, I had 1" of Toe In. No wonder this thing had a mind of its own.

So with my new USI's and the correct amount of toe out, I am in love for the first time!

One of the best ways to measure toe is to buy a 4' X 4' piece of Styrofoam. Lift your sled and lower it on to the Styrofoam and sit on the seat. Lift the sled off and measure the parallelism of the witness marks left by the carbides (skegs). Also check the fore / aft pressure of the runners and shim the attachment points and ski leg bushings accordingly.

what is the correct toe out measurement? my 03 mxz does the same thing that you mention. it handles nothing like my 2000 mach z did on an ice covered road. thanks

I was told 1/2" out.

I found that the shop manual is a little vauge on measuring. It shows measuring the front of the ski and the back of the ski, but if you think about it, a lot of skis are not straight on the edge so you don't have true paralel points.

TD had a great idea. Never thought about that so I took my measurements from the front and back carbide bolt
