I just recently bought a 2001 800 rmk. Freakin loving it. On my ingnition switch is says off, on prem, and on reg. What is on prem?

I was told to always run premium fuel in this sled. I am confused on what the switch does then??? I run premium and I have always put the switch on reg. Is that causing a problem? and how does that switch work?

Sounds like it changes the timing.

+2 degrees timing when on prem.
