I have a 2001 700 Classic that will start about 50% of the time. When it starts it fires right up. I can usually get it to fire up by removing the two wiring harness connectors on the coil and then re-installing them. I sure looks like a bad connection in one of the connectors. However; it had the same problem when it was only about 3 months old. The dealer replaced the coil assembly and the problem went away. I have since put on over 2000 miles with good starting characteristics. I removed the coil and carefully checked for loose prongs on the coil connector receptacle. They look just fine. My next step it to find new plugs to install on the wires leading to the coil. I may have a difficult time finding them without purchasing a new wiring harness. Does this Polaris model have a history of coil wiring problems or coil failure problems? I do not want to purchase a new coil if it is not faulty. Thanks for any help.

I had a problem like that with my coils too. When you get snow on them (from following another sled in deep snow), they breakdown and eventually quit. When this happened, my coils were covered in snow. To fix the problem, I painted the coils with insulating paint and never had a problem again. Some guys I know put a piece of thin metal over the coils to protect them from snow and this also worked. You might take the coils off and take them inside to dry them out and start fresh.
Good Luck.

Thanks for the advice, the starting problem seems to occur randomly with a warm dry engine or a cold damp engine. I had a problem starting it after it was sitting in my heated garage. I removed the coil low voltage wires and re-installed them. It then started. I just came back from a local auto parts supply store that tried to find new plug ends for my coil wires but had no luck. I will check with a local polaris dealer for his advice and plug end parts.
