The steering on my Ovation has tons of play, but everything is tight enough (steering rods, skis etc..). This seems like it would be a common problem with all "pogo" suspensions. anyone have a solution?

TSS Shim kit for the scissor arms made a world of difference on my 88 Exciter

I had a lot of play in the steering on my 95 vmax. Found the steering column retainer brkt under the engine rivets torn out. I replaced those and I still have alittle play from every pivot point. Do these shims help because I see the loosen there between the steering arm and strut ?
Sorry about the Question To the Question but I have theese problems also.

Royal distributing has the bushing kit for around $50, the bushings and bolts all wear in your steering knuckles, not a big job just start spraying a good penetrating oil on them now, and do it every day for a week or so, if they have never been changed they will need the oil....Been there done it with 3 Phazers......

I almost forgot about this post haha, I found there was some slack in the steering rods so gace those a turn, I also tightened all the other bolts that have to do with the steering/skis. Made a pretty big difference, it doesn't have half the play it did before :)

Good topic! This may explain the play in the my '91 Phazer II steering. I'll have to check that out when I have a day off.

On my Venture, the play in my steering was caused by a loose nut on the fan side "ball joint" "that joins the bar comming from the steering column, to the bar which connects to the skis.

yep the tierod end bolts always seem to come loose on the yamahas srv's phazers ect..also the bushing that is betewwn the steering post and frame(the white one) wears away over years...as far as the shim kit...man i went to the hardware store and got all the pieces for 12 bucks including the 6 bolts for the pogos..but those bolts don't come off easy after 20 years so have a torch ready.I torched and pounded for 2 hours to get those 6 bolts out...

Well I got my shim kit, for my '91 Phazer II. The kit has a bunch of steel shims (washers) as well as plastic ones. Can someone tell me where the plastic one go and where the steel ones go? I know where the shims go, just not if a plastic one or a steel one should be used in a certain spot.
Thanks
