Hi I have a 1984 Yamaha Enticer 340 the thing starts in reverse. I have tried the timing and the CDI and no luck. The compression is good. If any one out in the snowmobile world has had this problem please let me know as I am stumped on the next plan of action. I guess if I wanted to drive it in reverse all day it would be great.

I have done all these things
New Plugs (Both cylinders are firing fine)
- Cleaned out carb ( Was clean in first place but sounded like a no fuel from high speed jet)
- Swaped out coil and wire's from my other yamaha (It did nothing)
- Inspected electrical stator (Thinking it may have moved or something) I retarted the timing a small turn to see if it would maby stop the motor from trying to kick backwards.. IT did nothing..
- CHECKED COMPRESSION 115 psi on both sides
- new fuel in the fuel tank.
The engine runs fine just the fact that its starts the wrong way is a problem.

Try starting your machine with the pto side plug wire off,and see if it wiil run in the right direction. Also check your flywheel key remove stator and check for wires pinched together, your source coil wire might be shorting to your trigger coil wire.

I have checked the fly wheel key and its in good shape. I have tried to ajust the timming no go. The are no pinched wires. But here is what I have don. At the CDI box I have switched the brown wire and white and red wire with each other and when I do this the engine starts the right way but shuts off in about 10 seconds. Is it possible CDI box is no good.

Ok the problem was found the crank had spun out of place on the mag side. I was kind of surprise of this since its only a 340. To check this out you check out your timming mark on your flywheel and it should line up close to your trigger coil. Well mine was almost 120 degrees off. you have to make sure your piston is just below top dead center using a dial indicator when you line up your mark.
