Now that I've had my factory grips on and off a few times from the loosening and spinning issues+ bar change .I bought a set of 3 wire Hot grips since the factory wiring is starting to show through the casing at the grip and we all know how these doo factory grips are junk. Due to burning holes in your gloves and just quit working from shorting out so I just decided to replace them now.
My instuctions say they should fit loose on the bar and with the epoxy(j-b weld/ 2 part epoxy stuff) will fill the void and lock them on . I did a fit and man they are loose(way more then the factory ones) . My ? is.. how loose should these be before gluing them ? they say if there tight to sand them down till a loose fit is a acheived Has any one installed these grips , I just dont want to have a mess on my hands here and wasting 60 bucks not to mention time lost , I need my sled for the sw ride !!
My plan is to glue them on in the house and let them cure for 24hrs@70* then go out and put them on the sled to finsh the wiring on the brake side.
I would say there's about 3/16ths of a gap to fill. The instuctions say if theres no slop they will not adhere. It also says to put them on 3/4 of the way pull them off , re- smear the glue, re- install 100%, pull off again ,re-smear and install 100% ,let cure. This is to get all the air out and have a solid glue bond all before it sets(4-5min)
Has anyone installed Hot grips and found any tips to watch for? Does anyone know the hi low wire location at the plug on the revs? looks like i have blk/org/org but which org is hi/low?

Rick, there a post on Dootalk about the wiring.
Do a search there.

I put Hot Grips on Cody's and also Jacqui's kid's first sleds with no problems.
They were on the stock bars though. Not an undersized one.
Never had a problem with them coming loose.

Good luck.

Thanks Jeff , I now have the grips on , the throttle block on and wired. I been over to DT and read alot , but what threw me was the size of my new bars ,they are smaller than stock. I took a grip and tryed it on the stockers and it was tight compared to the new ones. After I posted this I called the dealer to get wiring info since mine showed no color strip on any wires. He pulled apart a 06 ss to look for me . Come to find out the color wore off the 1st 2" and i found it up under the casing .
Now it's just waiting for it to cure (epoxy) .Tomarrow i'll take it out to the sled and wire up the other side and finish it up.

I did follow the instructions on installing them and they tell you to pull the grip off and then back on to smear the epoxy evenly minus air. The last pull and reinstall was getting snug as it was starting to stiffen up. I dont think they will be going anywhere this time.

Keep us posted how they work for ya Rick. My left is out completely on the MXZ and the high is out on the GTX. I am thinking of going to the Hot Grips also.

Will doo  ,putting them on the sled today. One thing I found is the hot grips are 3/4" shorter than factory. This will help in the handgaurd mount dept, mine were right at the bend of the bar which had them tweaked a bit.
Make sure you get the 3 wire dual rate ones, there made for factory replacement. When you do go the change out , pull the casing off the old grips and thread the new wires in it. Hot grips do'nt come with the outer casing . I used about 4" of it on each side, this will get you inside the other casing in the harness.I spilt the longer casing from the plug back(about 1/2 way) after sliding the shorter chunk up to the block end . When finished everything is enclosed and looks factory.
On the wiring you might not find any color line until you get up in the harness under the casing . blk =ground org/w purple strip= low and soild orange is hi.
Around here they were a bit hard to find , marshall were out of stock . Lucky I found a set , called 5 places and had to run up to bay city for mine (last pair they had).

These are suppose to be the best on the market and are priced fair(60.00) compared to the factorys

Hey mutt, how did the Hot Grips work out for ya one the trip?[/b]They worked great, atleast they worked! It was cold up there wed on and I ran them on hi for a while . It was hard to tell at times as I was breaking in a new pair of leather balm gloves too.
If your going to replace grips I would get them over stockers. They also have a nice grip feel to them aswell. On my zx I had to put rubber O-rings on the grip to keep from sliding my hands off(hard plastic).
If you have J- hooks , hot grips makes a set with open ends too.

Thanks for the info and the tip about the j-hooks. The MXZ has them but the GTX dont for some reason!!
