Terri and I are scheduled to be in Gaylord, MI starting Feb 3rd for 11 days of snowmobiling, I even bought her a new sled! Now it looks like the snow is melting faster than an ice cream in Florida in July.
Anyone up that way who can tell me what is happening with snow. If it is bad I guess I will have to go to the U.P. to ride but will lose my money on the house we rented.

Thanks....

Richard

7" in the souther U P and up to two feet in the central UP Munising and east! Snowing now and we have a good base and the ground is all covered; now we are getting riding snow. Temp is 33 right now and the barometer can't get much lower. We are going to get hammered with 50 mph winds and lake effect!

Richard,

I know you would lose money on that house but imo you should go to the U.P anyway because the trails are so much better up here. It would take more than one day to lose all the snow we have here and besides we are getting some good snow coming down again right now. ! ! I would say there is still 2 feet of snow still on the ground and we are getting more and more..

Take a look at the chairity ride pics and all the snow we have here.

The trails in the U.P just rock. !

Take our advise Richard and head to the U.P. Why I ask Why would you'd
want to deal with all that Gaylord traffic???

<<<Why I ask Why would you'd want to deal with all that Gaylord traffic???>>>

From a purely selfish standpoint, I hope everyone is convinced that the Gaylord area is teaming with rooky/idiot/Blair wannabees, 1/2 hour waits at the gas pumps and tore up trails that are never groomed...but the truth is my experience regarding the question above (this season anyway) has been because it's no worse than some areas of the UP on weekends, say within an hour and a half of the bridge??

Richard, at the risk of jinxing the rest of the season, we are likely having one of the better seasons we've had recently. Plenty of snow, and the base has recovered nicely from the disaster we had a few weeks ago. There are some choppy trails here and there, but that's going to be typical weekend stuff in most places (in MI.) especially close to towns.

The other thing is that so much of the lower has pretty decent conditions right now, riders are spread out everywhere. Heavy traffic is unsusual anywhere. Not like some times when a 30 mile circle around Gaylord is the only snow in the lower.

It's been so cold and windy the snow (fluffy lake effect stuff) isn't packing very well. We could actually use the warmer weather for a couple of days to improve the base.

Saturday ran up along the new trail along Mullet Lake, then to Cheboygan, down to Millersberg, through Atlanta and Lewiston, then home. Trail from Atlanta home was rough, admitted. Some of the guys were talking about some road running, but we stuck to the trails. Anyway, 200.8 miles. Sunday went over to Lakes of the North, Starvation Lake, Frederick, and home. Another 85 miles, great conditions - in 4 hours. Terrible riding......nobody could enjoy it.

Snow is pretty much all gone here in SW MI. Just the piles are still here. Supposed to get 1-2 tonight and its supposed to get icy. Thursday and friday we are supposed to get more snow, but they said it was going to be wet snow, didnt say how much yet.

the rain had to slam the base hard down there huh michahicks? like the others say its getting much better by the hour here in the u.p., I do know they had tons of snow in the area for it to hit.

Can't ride from Lake Michigan to Lake Superior in a couple of hours down state! How many trails can you ride that are forty miles of 100 mph riding? Manistique to Shingleton you can do that. Schoolcraft County has 145 miles of groomed trails. There are over 3,000 miles of forrest roads in Schoolcraft county. There are many of the 1500 miles of county roads that are rideable in Schoolcraft County. We have about a foot of base! Looks like we will have at least a foot of fresh snow by tomorrow morning.

The Big Difference is; there is no Jack Pine Lodge down state! You don't have Kaw-liga either!

I can say that if the conditions are not what I expect, I will be in the U.P.. I'm not going to buy another new sled, new trailer, drive 1650 miles and not ride. I'll give up the deposit and move to the north because I'm in town to RIDE BABY RIDE!

Richard

Thanks for the updates.
