I own a 2000 polaris RMK 800. It's big bills it the gas pump. I go for a 35 mile powder ride and i'm at a 1/4 tank, when a guy with a 700 sks with VES has 3/4 of a tank left.
He said this VES is the key to good gas milage.
Can you convert a sled to VES? And if you can how much is it? (ballpark estimate) :(

I just sold 2 800's this past fall. An '02 XC8X w/VES, and an identical '01 without. Gas milage was the same on both (10-12mpg)- so was the performance. If side by side, you might see the '02 difference. Non VES might respond to different gearing (25/40?), and conservative clutching, to see MAYBE another mile or 2 to the gallon. SKS guy is bluffing - or way down on performance. No way on earth is he using half the gas you are.

To answer your question regarding VES conversions, there was a kit available from Polaris. It was actually priced pretty reasonably, was a pair of cylinders, valves (I think?), and a fresh set of pistons. Seems like it was under a thousand. Never that popular - especially when the valve related problems started cropping up. FWIW.
