Well I bought my fusion brand new in '06 and I rode her all year last year despite the horrible year. I am currently on my fourth belt after burning the previous three. The two dealerships I have spoken to have said it's because I'm not spinning the track enough before I start on my trips. This was a big surprise to me as I'm actually anal about spinning my track after my run and before I go out again. Not only that but I've raced my sled against several others and the only one I've ever beaten is a rebuilt '02 600XC. I can understand not beating my other friends clutched '02 600 but when an '03 rev 600 beat me by a sled length I knew there was a problem. I have a large windshield on it, if I change it will that help a whole sled length? Oh, the one dealership did take it in to look at it (after I bought my son's 120 there) and they said the clutches were aligned and that wasn't the burning issue. I asked them if it was my suspension that was causing my sled to be such a dog and they said maybe, but that's not there job to adjust suspension but they will clutch it for me to make it go faster. (Don't worry- talked to the owner re: customer service, and am never going to Central Ontario Powersports again. :whatever: ) A friend who rides ski doo said to race I need to make the back end as soft as it will go and make the centre spring as firm as it will go to keep the skiis down. Is this a general concensus on making my sled a little faster. (Hopefully a sled length as losing the last race to the rev had me sitting on my friends sled and smiling for a photo shoot. - Now that's embarassing) I would like to return the favour this year if possible. From everything I've read, this is supposedly a fast sled but it's turned out my friends pretty much make fun of me (or feel sorry for me- which sucks even more) My last sled was a '98 700 XC and it would eat this sled for breakfast when it comes to speed but not suspension. The thing I love about my fusion is that it's so light and jumping drifts and small jumps has never been so fun. When I hit real beat up trails I leave the others in the dust and I end up waiting for them way ahead. I always use Sunoco 94 octane in her and have pretty much babied her. I still find myself wishing I had my old XC at times though. Groomed trails I've been playing with the suspension but I still can't find that place where I feel comfortable going at 60 - 80 mph like I did with my XC. I have been able to get my fusion over 100 mph a couple of times back in '06 but since then I haven't been able to. Any ideas on how to get more speed out of her other then clutching her or jetting her or piping her or selling her and buying a new 700 cfi switchback (which I'm tempted to do but don't know if I can go back to polaris as the dealers in my area suck!). If I switch brands, though, man will I hear it. I've been a HUGE polaris supporter but my loyalty is waning with lack of dealership support here. It's also the wifes turn to get a new sled so I really should grin and bare it.
On another note I was talking to some sled heads at work and they said the newest rumor is that polaris is going to fold their sled division and concentrate solely on atv's after the IQ has had it's run. Obviously it's not something they would advertise as their sled sales would plummet. I think it's probably just idle chat on doo talk but kinda makes you wonder. Their sled division profits did go up last year but is that enough?
