Heading up north for the first time in the next 2 weekends. and wondering where would be a good place to stay in this area and best trail loop to ride.
Preferrably a hotel that has teh trail system near by so we can ride from hotel to the trail system.
thanks for all the suggestions

Exit 251 ( 4 mile Rd) has a Super8 right on the trail system. This location is inbetween Houghton Lake and Gaylord. Gas/ Food/Pool/Hot Tub. Hotel sits on the trail practically.

I was looking quite a bit to find places that were on the trail system using the mapquest to pin point the hotel location and the michigan trail system to see if they connect anywhere. haha didn't work all to well. but I knew I would get the answer I wanted from here..
thanks so much. Exspecially directions and links!

Your best bet would be north of hougton/higgins lk due to the snowbelt . the further northwest from grayling you go the better the snow and trails get . Gaylord is the central hub for the lower and does get busy so be carfull when riding in the area.

If you want to get a central location, the motels with an Old 27 south mailing address will put you pretty much smack in the middle. There are several, and generallly you can ride in any direction from them - you aren't stuck in a corner or on one end or the other. Gas and food within 15 minutes of most any of them. All are directly across the street from the trail.

Ray's Retreat is right on the trail and right between Gaylord and Grayling.
