This year i rode my phazer quite a bit it is the first snowmobile i have ever owned and it was a lot of fun. I have been thinking of moving on to something with more power and better suspension.

The majority of riding i do is ditch banging, running through farm fields, snow drifts, retention ponds, and jumping, pretty much no trail riding.

I want to get a 96-98 xcr 440 i know the 96 has the adjustable suspension, but the 98 has the exhaust valve motor.

I was wondering how much faster a 96-98 xcr will be than my phazer?

Also how much faster would the 98 be than the 96?

Are there any known problems with these sleds?

And i would like to know the approximate weight of this snowmobile?

Is the xcr about the same size as a phazer?

Would a xcr 440 be a good snowmobile for me to move onto next?

One last question how do you tell if a xcr440 is the "sp" edition?

And of course anymore infomation you would like to share about the polaris xcr440
thanks.

i have a 96 and its been a good sled. i road the #### out of it when i was younger. the 98 is the best out of the one you stated there. the 97 had some new engine problems for sure but by now people probably got them running right. the 96 has the dial adjust yes but the 97 and 98 have reservoir rear track shock intead. all 3 are fun sled and will be faster then the phazer.

Do you know if all the 96-98 xcr 440 are sp's or is there a way to tell if they are or not?

only the 96 is an sp i think. the 97 and 98's are red, the 96 is white. the 96 sp is the only one with the dial adjust shock

i happen to own a 1999 gen II xcr 440. its an old snocross sled and it rips! it will pull about 100mph, but it gets there in a big hurry. it kicks the #### out of my old 95 phazer 2, its probly 50 pounds heavier than a phazer, but the little 440 kicks serious ###.
it beats the #### out of my brother inlaw's "polaris xcr 600 triple" its a very well handling sled and i would suggest taking out the sway bar, it seems to stick alot better in the corners. it is extremely reliable and fun, it also gets pretty good mileage
as for the old phazers they belong in a junk yard ive owned six of them and they are crap they seem to have cronic electrical issues and steering play, id spend three days working on mine and three minutes riding it and it broke every time without fail.
