The wife and I went to the UP this past weekend. Here are the gory details.

Saturday the 16th I was supposed to take my daughters to a concert (Rascal Flatts) then head to Michigan on Sunday morning. Well...the lead singer got sick and the concert got postponed. I decided to go to bed early (10pm) and get up early for the drive so we could enjoy some sledding on Sunday afternoon. I got up at 1am and packed the truck, showered, and loaded up the trailer. We crossed the Indiana/Michigan border sometime around 2am....that is when the freezing rain started. To make a long story short, there were wrecks EVERYWHERE between Indiana and the bridge. It took nearly 10 hrs to reach the bridge (usually 5hrs). Then about 30 min west of the bridge it stopped raining and I thought we finally could make up a little time. Well, I went around a corner and it turned in to a whiteout. 15 hours after we left we arrived at the Jack Pine Lodge.

We stayed at the Jack Pine for the 4 days we were up. I can not say enough about Digger and Linda. They always take care of us and it is VERY affordable. Digger is pretty much open 24/7. He lets me get gas early in the morning and beers late at night. If anyone is ever looking for a place to stay give Digger a shot. They have 5 Cabins and a nice bar/restaurant with great food (I sugest the pizza fry) He is also great to recommend places to ride, etc.

SNOW...wow did they have plenty! I have never seen that much snow. At the Jack Pine they got nearly 2 feet in 2 days. The riding was awesome. We rode to Grand Marais, Miners Castle, The Buckhorn, Camel Riders, Manistique, and my personal favorite was Big Springs. If you have not had the chance to check out Big Springs you should go there. Another great suggestion from Digger. Anyhow, the ride home took 7 1/2 hours but seemed like forever because I have to go back to work tomorrow.

Morale of the story, stop by the Jack Pine and HURRY before the snow melts!!

I'm really glad to hear that you went up to stay with Digger and Linda. We stayed there over Christmas this year. They are definitely great people. You know that we held our ride there last year, right? Digger knows the area well and is always full of suggestions for your riding pleasure. It sounds like you had a great time and I'm glad you did. I'm not sure if we will make it up there again this year, but next year we will be there for sure.
