: Too Rich Or Oil Problem

A recent development for my 2002 Legend 600. I have noticed that when idling either during a trip or on start up the fumes have got to the burning eye stage, not so much smoke when idling except the usual start up amount. We do alot of sledding and maintain our sleds in tip top shape. I'm using Amsoil Interceptor, High octane fuel, clean Raves regularly, clean plugs. I do my own carbs but haven't done these yet. I haven't changed any settings on the sled and definetely didn't have this problem at the end of last season and it wasn't noticable at the beginning of this season. I have checked the oil calibration/synchronization and it's bang on. What factors cpuld just change? The sled has DPM , could this have anything to do with it? causing too rich a mixture? Or, is it an oil problem? We do use the proper anti freeze regularly as some of our trips are cold and have had freeze up with the other sleds. I can't beleive this would have an effect.
I should note that I haven't noticed any change in performance.
Does anyone one know the correct air mixture screw setting?

Cheers and thanks for any ideas
Dave

When you remove the plugs, what colour are they? They should be slightly brown. How much oil are you using? You should be running approx. 35:1 (fuel to oil).

Check this thread out for oil pump adjustment and other tips.

Get the sled fixed up, the trails up your way are great.

Good luck.

Have you checked to be sure that the arm on the oil pump is returning freely. They are known to stick some and cause the pump to add excess amounts of oil at idle.
