thanks...

Hey I have an 1984 polaris 440. I can answer some of your questions.
As far as the hood goes, any hood of a polaris from '84 to '89 will fit, possibly a '90.
My '91 polaris has a newer seat. It works well but doesnt fit as good as the stock seat. Its a little wider, and where the trunk is there is a step up on the newer seats, i had to add a 2" block of wood, which I covered with vinyl to compensate for the step up. Not quite sure on the pro x seats.
Clear gas tank will be hard to find, if they even make them. those sleds have 7.6 gallons, they changed to a 11.6 gallon tanks in '90 I think (maybe '91) I dont think the bigger tank will fit on the older sleds. Looking at the tank on my '84 and the tank on my '91 it doenst look like it would fit. I dought the make clear 7.6 gallon tanks as the sleds are so old they wouldnt be hot items.
Cant answer you question on the piping, becuase Ive yet to pipe my sleds.
The xtra10 suspension should work without changing the tunnel. Could be wrong but I think should fit. You should be able to tel before you even remove your old rails.
The track lugs will be the main issue. 1.5" lugs is as big as I can go on my 440 without them hitting the tunnel. If your concern is that the 136" track will stick out past the tunnel, then just get a tunnel extension, that would be much easier than changing out the whole tunnel.
Doing a complete tunnel change would be a considerable amount of work. Lots of drilling out rivets, plus you'll need a rivet gun and rivets to put it back together. Not that it cant be down, just seems like it would be alot of work on such an old sled.

yeah i am looking at a 90 hood right now from a 500. ok i have one my question do you think its possible to change my arms and my steering system?
thanks

Yeah, that will all work. I have checked and the arms and steering are totally interchangable. My '91 has a slight bend in the arm, I went to replace it with one of my '84. It fit, but I realized/saw it had been previously welded so i just put pack on the slighty bent one. So I know the arms and steering off the '90 will fit.
That would be a good upgrade since on the 80's sleds the handle bars are welded and cant be adjusted or raised.
You'll want to pull the engine to get easy access to get the old steering sytem out.

Im not familiar with adding NOS to a sled, however if its fan cooled and you add boost Im pretty sure its gonna get way to hot and burn down. If its liquid cooled talk with the manufacter and see if it will work for your sled.
Im sure with enough $$$ you could do it.

the boost bottle, it hooks up to your carbs, my brother has a 98 700xc and he has one and it makes a difference. its not NOS its just a black bottle and connects both of your carbs for more air flow. but i was wondering if i could just get the mounting kit from another sled and put it on mine. because i try finding them on Dennis kirk but they don't have my year but they do have it for a 500 twin (LC).... and do you think could put reed on this sled?

psi made a nice trail pipe for that sled also almost anything that fits the l/c 500 will fit your sled , I had a 85 and a 89 they were a fast and light fun sleds ,check some salvage sites for the bigger gas tanks and other things new type of the skes light weight make it even faster and maybe 30 pounds lighter Als snowmobile salvage is one place to look but there are many more just key in snowmobile parts used hope this helps!

I am not 100% positive but am 99% sure that your sled doesnt use reeds. It should just be a basic piston port motor in that there is no reeds.

XCR583 is correct. Theres no VF reeds nor can you use boost bottle on the Indy 400 motors. WL
