Monster 02-29-2008, 04:20 PM I need part #'s for the jets on the carbs on the 521cc(536) I have been lazy and was trying to sell it so I would not have to do it. But I think now I will just replace the jets/clean the carbs and get some use out of it.
Monster 02-29-2008, 04:21 PM Also anyone know what the PSI in the cylinders is? On this motor? :lookaround:
Monster 03-01-2008, 11:22 AM Anyone? Should I just clean the old dirty ones?
steve6 03-01-2008, 01:17 PM just clean them, make sure you get the pilot jets cleaned too. I dont know what size they should be.
As for the PSI, 100+ is recommended, 120+ is ideal, with little variance between the cylinders.
Monster 03-01-2008, 10:52 PM I will give it a shot on Sunday.
I will just record how many turns out the screws are and go from their as a starting point.
Plan is to remove current jets clean them take pictures and reinstall also check cylinder pressure. I got a gauge off ebay want to see if it works.
To use the gauge I am guessing disconnect spark plugs, remove one, pull starter a couple times record and do the next one and repeat?
Monster 03-02-2008, 02:19 PM Runs better now after i took it and cleaned it up, but I need to know what screws to turn out and where.
I set the idle screw at 2 1/4 turns
I set another one at 2 turns, its the one where the airfilter would hook up beside
I opened up the fuel bowl and the little jets in their were 0 turns out is that right? Also one of them is stuck and I can not get it out, looks like someone tried before and made a mess out of it. Whats the best way to remove it, very tight space. I also have pictures coming.
As for the compression
Clutch side 126psi
Other side 124psi
Is this compression good? I know it was posted 120+ but I am really picky when it comes to this and need to know for sure.....
billww 03-02-2008, 02:45 PM If its runing good you should not have to pull the jets just run some good carb cleaner in it , the compression sounds good , the idle screws should be about 13/4 out also clean your raves it will get better power gap plugs.
Monster 03-02-2008, 03:26 PM raves?
It idles for a couple minutes then dies..... And i think it is something to do with the mangled up jet that I cant get out...
steve6 03-02-2008, 05:37 PM I think there is some confusing on what you are trying to clean. You need to remove the air box, and remove the carb from the machine to clean out the bottom of the carbs. There is 4 screws there to remove and in there will be floats, jets and pilot jets. All these needs to be clean etc. I'm not sure what the small screw's on the right side of the carb should be set at but usually 1.5 or 2.5 turns, make sure both are adjusted the same. The screw on the left side is the idle screw, usually these are rough so you can turn them by hand.
I recommend you take both off, take them over to the bench and clean them out extensively. Make sure not to mix up the sides either, keep the left on the left, right on the right etc. After you get them on the bench it will allow you to get that air screw adjuster out with a proper screw driver.

Monster 03-03-2008, 11:51 AM I did remove the carbs took them completely apart cleaned them best I could. Found one carb with a bad jet that I can't get out its stuck and looks like the head is stripped as well. Heres pictures of what I did.

The one on the right is the one that is stuck and stripped. Tried best I could to get it out even using liquid wrench but it didnt help....

Monster 03-03-2008, 02:23 PM Also, when I did take the fuel from the carb it was yellow in colour. I did add fresh fuel but perhaps old stuff was still in the tank??? Maybe it needs a full tank of fresh fuel?
billww 03-03-2008, 02:54 PM The one with the sping on it is the idle air speed and the other ones should not have to be touched check to make sure that your needles are seating all the way down as many times there is just a little dirt in the hole so they can not seat.

If its ugly drain it and add new stuff, gas goes bad after sitting for a long time.
Monster 03-03-2008, 08:47 PM Anyone know how many turns out things should be at????? I need a starting point on this motor.
It does run better at idle after the carb cleaning but I need to know if the settings are correct.
mxzwfo 03-05-2008, 09:14 PM Not sure of the turns out on that sled but, have you pulled the pilot jet out to clean? Its the small jet down the tube on your 8th pic. This jet controls your fuel from idle to about 1/4 throttle. If it is dirty or plugged and or its passage in the carb, the sled wont idle very well or not at all
idooski 03-07-2008, 04:41 PM I think that is the one that is stuck and has the slot stripped out. If you can't get it out, at least spray with carb cleaner and spray out from both directions with compressed air. The air screw should be turned out 1 1/2 turns to start.
It looks like in picture #4 that the lever that the floats use to shut off the fuel is tipped down. It should be level. You may have to bend the little tab that sits on the needle to get it to sit level.
If the gas in the carbs was yellow, the tank needs to be drained and new gas put in.
