Spot on, my friend. You should find a sled on looks, budget, and the performance you need for the conditions you will be riding in. 100+ mph is great but you won't find many stretches on the trails where you can really use it safely, at least not here in Southern Wisconsin.

As the owner a 600XCSP and 700XCSP I can tell they they both are very reliable, quick, handle pretty good, ride vey well, and overall are great sleds. The 7 is a little faster, the 6 a little lighter, buit both are excellent trail machines, Lake racers, probably not. I'm of the opinion that the Edge 600s are probably on the top ten best sled ever list, so take that for what it's worth.

all the 01 to 05 are edge chassis, just pick the cheapest one. id go with a 6 or 7 for trail riding.

I have a 2002 XCSP 700 with 3200 miles completely stock, except for some jetting changes for improved fuel and oil consumption, 144 studs, just cleaned carbs and VES valves, and I had it going 110 mph on the speedo on a plowed, level road (thin layer of hard packed snow) and it was -10 degrees outside. This sled beat my friend's 2001 SRX 700 triple/triple.
Last year I had a 2001 XCSP 500 with the same mileage, completely stock with stock jetting, 48 studs, and I had it going 100+ mph, under the same conditions. I put 1000 miles on this sled without having to touch it, however, you should clean the VES valves every 500 miles.
Both sleds, with healthy shocks, track, studs and carbides handle and ride awesome on the trail, and hold their own on the straights.
I would say they are both amazing all around sleds and are both top of their class for those years for both performance and reliability.

I have a 04 xc sp and I love it! I had some clutch trouble at first but I just had to break it in. Mines a 600 and it's got some zip. Plenty for the trails. Trust me, I know from experience, 100 mph is FAST!!! They will do 110 without a problem. Good luck with your choice!
