First I'd like to say Im a total idiot, I forgot to check my oil and now my snowmobile died. 100% my fault Im stupid. Do you guys have any idea of what this could cost me to fix? Can you give me a price idea?

you going to rebuild it yourself,,,, you going to have someone do it for you,,, you just going to get a used (already) rebuilt motor, you going to try to get a crate motor?? all going to cost you differently,,,, what kind of mechanical skills do you have?? ever toyed with engines before?? need a lot more information to try to point you the right direction.

Yeah I was going to say something like that too :) Fantastic title, I could not help but click.

Anyway yeah, puree layed out the options for you, I can't add anything. Being a budget rider, I would be leaning toward either buying a used motor for it or else parting out your sled or just sell the whole thing as a parts sled. I would think the best deal, if you could find it, would be a good motor out of a wrecked sled, that hopefully would not need to be rebuilt. This would be my preferred route, but it really does depend entirely on what your wants/needs are and your mechanical skill level and how much money and/or time you want to spend on it.

I don't know what you burned down, but you can normally do a top end rebuild on a twin for about $500 if you do it yourself. $800 or more to have someone do it for you. It's the best way to go IMO. Buying a used engine is a crap shoot. You have no idea how it has been taken care of.

Gotta wonder if it wrecked the top end or bottom end as well? Might have just locked a crank bearing? or totally ruined the crank? blow'd a hole in the pistons? so much can be wrong.. lol

I guess if it is a newer sled with low miles, I would consider getting a crate motor. It all depends how attached you were to the chassis, handling, ride...etc.. Otherwise I'd have to agree with everyone else so far. Way too many variables for us to point you in the right direction.

See that's what I was trying to say, I'm assuming a really destroyed motor. I mean, he ran it without oil until it died. But who knows, it could be way cheaper to rebuild if it's minimal damage. And again, how old is this sled, what is it worth, what are you doing with it, etc. Of course you can't trust a used motor out of a wrecked sled like you could a crate motor, but if you are paying a few hundred instead of a few thousand...again it depends on your needs and budget.
