Well I finally got my sled out for a nice long ride. Looks like I'm only getting about 10 mpg. Anyone know what these should get? I see comments on here about Z440 being easy on gas but I can't find any numbers and my other sleds have done better than this.
I think the sled is running a bit rich but other than that seems good. Tops out at 70 mph + which sounds about right for this sled.
Any comments or ideas?
Thanks.

That sounds a bit low. My wife's 440 Panther gets better than that and it is moving more track and overall weight. I can't say just how much it gets since I don't run it on a regular basis. I just know it's more - probably around 12-14 mph. The 440 fan is a good motor in many ways.

That motor should get around 12-13 mpg in that sled.
We had one in our stables at one time and even beating the living crap out of it (which is what my kid did to it its entire life) it got 12 - 13.
It may be jetted a bit fat or the clutching bay be a bit off.

Thanks for the feedback. I do think it could be leaned out a bit so I'll try that. The season is pretty much over now so I'll find out if I can improve it next year. ....unless we get a surprize storm or something ofcourse.

Id be extremely lucky to get 10 mpg with a 98 zl 500. The things a pig on gas.

The 440 should be better gas mileage than the 500

Incase anyone was following this post I droped the needle a couple notches and now it's getting atleast 13-14 mpg. Significant improvement over the previous 10 mpg.
It's still a bit rich so I think for next year I'm going to try going down a jet size but overall I think the sled is doing about what it should now.
Thanks for the input!
