I installed a new jackshaft bearing clutch side on my 1998 mxz583, The shaft is fitted through the chain case all the way, I install the bearing on the clutch side, install the collar, install the upper chain case gear, install the driven pulley, with the spacer , then install the outside spacer and shims, and the bolt, in the service manual it says that there should only be 1mm play well I have about 3-5 mm. I know that the jackshaft is seated in the chaincase, the bearing is installed straight, but when I put that outer spacer, stub shaft, with the bolt and shims that outer spacer sticks out about 3-5mm, is this ok, It seems when I have serviced the driven pulley in the past that this spacer fits into the clutch more, I'm really confused

Any help would be great

Did you measure the play before you diassembled? What I mean is, maybe you had the same play before, and your worried about nothing? It's OK for a secondary to float a bit, in fact, it's a good thing, keeping the belt aligned.

Re-check your install, make sure the spacers, gears etc. are seated before you ride it. Try to move the jackshaft laterally. Is there a burr or something on the spacer??

If you've got a buddy who's sled friendly, have another set of eyes look at it.

I realise this may not help, but that's all I got!
